Reliability Engineer in Training
Division: Weir Minerals
Location: Fort McMurray Alberta
Onsite, Full time

Purpose of Role: The “Reliability Engineer” role supports WMC through the effective troubleshooting, analysis and solution proposal to ensure the reliability of Weir equipment. This is considered an entry level II Engineer position and we are looking for someone with excellent failure analysis abilities to fill this position immediately. The candidate must possess superior trouble shooting and failure mode analysis along with knowledge of technical standards and technical expertise in both 3D and 2D CAD. Working under general supervision of the Reliability Engineering Manager; recommendations are reviewed for soundness of judgment and application of standards and policies, finished work is reviewed for attainment of objectives and adherence to deadlines. Direct interaction with Weir vendors, manufacturing facilities, Millwright and Mechanics and Customers including frequent visits to mine sites is required.

Key Responsibilities:

Support the Reliability Engineering Manager, providing technical support to Sales, Field & Process Engineering, as well as Weir Customers & their Reliability Engineering group.

Identification of root cause for failures and propose corrective and preventative actions. Drive mitigation by proposing design/process, maintenance and training changes.

Must be able to write technical reports, standards, presentations, inspection test plans (ITP), work instructions (WI), process flow diagrams, piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and estimates.

Understanding inspection techniques such as measurements, x-ray, Ultrasonic Testing (UT), microstructure, hardness testing, fitment studies including statistical tolerance analysis. Laser scanning & software knowledge (Geomagic Control X) and Statgraphics is an asset.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.

Professional Engineer APEGA designation.

1-4 years of direct design/field experience in the mechanical and structural design of heavy industrial equipment.

2-4 years of product design experience relative to the design of cast parts and machined parts or 3 years technical engineering experience in Field Service Engineering in an industrial mining atmosphere. Experience with rotating equipment specifically, centrifugal slurry pumps.

Basic knowledge hydraulic system including electrical & instrumentation devices.
