The Rehabilitation Aide/Transporter will transfer and transport patients and provide patient care under direct supervision of a clinician within the policies and procedures of both the Institute and the departmental program, and in accordance with laws and regulations of the state of Maryland. This position will assist clinical staff in the provision of patient care programs and perform supportive tasks, including those serving the administrative, maintenance, and operational needs of the program.

Responsibilities Prepare, maintain, and clean patient treatment areas before & after treatment sessions. Adhere to Kennedy Krieger Institute policies regarding patient & staff safety, hygiene, patient privacy, and patient-specific and standard precautions. Assist in the practice of therapeutic exercise & functional activities programs under direct supervision of a Physical Therapist, Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA), Occupational Therapist, or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) per Maryland state law. Demonstrate appropriate application and removal of electrodes and orthotic devices, as well as technical proficiency of adaptive equipment and rehabilitation modalities. Inform clinicians of any adverse effects.Greet, transport, and assist patients with hygiene and/or dressing needs. Remind and clarify appointment schedules for patients in conjunction with clinicians’ treatment plans and care center scheduling. Provide general program overview and conduct tours of the clinic for new patients and families.Assist with maintaining program supplies, including ordering, inventory control, labeling and storing supplies. Participate in maintenance, organization, care, cleaning, transport, tracking, scheduling and safe storage of equipment. Identify and correct/report quality control problems, such as removal and coordination of repair of broken equipment, or environmental hazards.Actively participate in meetings and committees including execution of tasks related to preparing for regulatory review and performance improvement projects. Attend staff and supervisory meetings and training sessions. Qualifications

Must possess and maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

 

EDUCATION:

High School Graduate, GED, or equivalent required.Associate’s degree preferred.Enrollment in health occupation curriculum, certification, or academic program is preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience working or volunteering in a hospital or clinical setting preferred.Experience working with or treating children or adults with developmental or acquired disabilities is preferred. Benefits
