Regulatory Coordinator

The Regulatory Coordinator will be responsible for regulatory and administrative support and a thorough review of research protocols for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) in accordance with federal regulations, NIH Guidelines and IACUC policies pertinent to all research involving animal subjects.

A thorough knowledge of IACUC policies and procedures, as well as all applicable federal regulations and guidelines, is required to substantiate regulatory compliance. The employee will work independently, receiving and distributing information from/to researchers, IACUC members and other faculty and staff in the University of Pittsburgh research community.

Specific duties will include:

Protocol administration and review

Meeting agenda construction

Writing and proofreading letters and other communications to outside regulatory agencies, accreditation agencies and other educational agencies and institutions in the United States and abroad

Evaluating and managing documentation regarding the protocol

Taking minutes for two monthly meetings

Report generation

The position is responsible for training, guiding and explaining the IACUC submission and review process to research investigators, research coordinators, technical and other staff. This employee will attend IACUC meetings.

Familiarity with animal research and in particular IACUC protocol writing is preferred.

This position involves extensive contact with the research community; as such, the employee must be able to demonstrate competence in oral and written professional communications as the employee will personally and electronically communicate with members of the research community on a regular basis.

Animal Research Protections Supports the activities of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), which prospectively reviews and approves activities requiring vertebrate animals, audits ongoing animal studies, inspects animal use areas, and trains individuals engaged in animal research.

Serves as point of contact for regulatory affairs and responds to inquiries related to all state, local, federal, and industrial compliance policies and regulations. Creates various tracking and regulatory documents and provides status updates on visit report entries. Coordinates trade compliance training for faculty and staff and performs various administrative duties.
