Perioperative Services at all Hamilton Health Sciences sites provides pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative care for both adults and children. The Hamilton General supports community hospital services and specializes in Cardiac, Vascular, Neurosurgery and Adult Burns and Trauma.

1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
2. Graduate of an approved Operating Room Technician program
3. Current Certificates in Medication Administration, Enteral Nutrition Via Gastrostomy Tube, Urinary Bladder Catheterization, Transcription of Physicians Orders, Advanced Wound Care and Airway Management, or has completed equivalent community college studies
4. Current Heart and Stroke Foundation course in CPR or equivalent
5. Recent (2 years) relevant Operating Room experience in a tertiary care facility
6. Demonstrated skill and ability in cardiac, trauma and vascular surgeries
7. Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills
8. Demonstrates commitment to the principles of professional practice
9. Demonstrates judgment in carrying out his or her role or function and is responsible and accountable for acting on the interpretation of data
10. Demonstrates critical-thinking and decision-making in assessment and problem identifications
11. Demonstrates ongoing personal professional education and development
12. Must be able to wear lead aprons for long periods of time (aprons 15-20 pounds in weigh, works for cases 1-3 hrs in length)
