Position Responsibilities:
· Demonstrates ability to initiate and safely administer antineoplastic agents.
· Demonstrates clinical skills and judgment in caring for cancer patients and end of life issues.
· Demonstrates the ability to safely care for patients receiving internal and external radiation treatments.
· Demonstrates the ability to care for neutropenic patients.
· Educates patients, families, visitors and ancillary staff on neutropenic precautions.
· Demonstrates ability to access and care for patients with implantable venous access device (por-a-cath).
· Demonstrates safe and correct calculation of antineoplastic agents. Including, but not limited to, calculating body surface area (BSA), Absolute Neutrophil Count (ANC).
· Provides Pre and Post Operative care to patients undergoing mastectomy, lobectomy, prostate seeding and insertion of tandem and ovoid.
· Demonstrates ability to safely care for post craniotomy patients.
· Demonstrates ability to identify signs and symptoms of common oncology emergencies.
· Levels II/III: Evaluates, assesses and documents patient response to chemo and radiation therapy.
· Levels II/III: Provides ongoing observations, interventions and documentations on patients receiving high dose Interleukin II.
· Levels II/III: Coordinates, consults with oncology pain management team.
· Level III: Plans and presents unit in-services on new information relating to cancer diagnosis and treatments.
· Level III: Consistently serves as preceptor for new staff members.
· Level III: Acquires increasingly complex clinical skills in identifying, intervening and documenting signs and symptoms of common oncology emergencies.
· Successfully challenges EKG I test upon hire, if previously trained or successfully completes EKG I program within 90 days of hire.
· Successfully interprets life-threatening dysrhythmia and subsequent treatment.
· Demonstrates safe and correct defibrillation.
· Administers anti-dysrhythmic therapy as ordered.
· Demonstrates basic understanding of patient's daily status, including reason for admission, surgeries/procedures performed, pertinent diagnostic data, learning needs of the patient, and discharge plan.
· Demonstrates understanding of patient multi-system complications, evidenced by identification and reporting of abnormal findings to appropriate physician in a timely manner and implementation of nursing intervention.
· Performs initial vital signs and admission history to include introduction to patient and family. Assessment of chief complaint and notification of physician within 15 minutes of arrival to unit.
· Administers medications within 30 minutes of scheduled time. Observes and documents effectiveness. Recognizes and reports adverse reactions immediately.
· Documents/reports patient responses or outcomes resulting from: nursing interventions, treatments/procedures, interpersonal interactions, and patient/family education.
· All other tasks related to the position’s duties.
Qualifications:
· Current FL RN License
· BLS and ACLS Required
· 1+ year of experience
