Provides supervision to employees; works with Nursing Administration to plan, establish and assure achievement of department goals, policies and procedures. Prepare for the annual DOH Survey. Coordinates all nursing/patient activities; collaborates with Infection Prevention Nurse, Staff Development Coordinator, Nursing Performance Improvement Coordinator, MDS Coordinator and Director of Quality/Outcome Management and other NAIs as indicated. Direct line responsibility for projected and immediate staffing, covers absences on all shifts as necessary. House supervision on a rotating basis. Completes probation reports, annual evaluations and submits LATS in a timely manner. Works closely with the Human Resources Department regarding employee relations and other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Reassignment: Current New York State Department of Health Helen Hayes Hospital employee with permanent or contingent permanent status as a Registered Nurse Supervisor I Rehab.HELPS: Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement– Statewide (HELPS) program as a Registered Nurse Supervisor I Rehab if they have possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and three years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience in an acute rehabilitation, acute inpatient critical care, or medical surgical setting. Substitution: a bachelor’s degree in nursing can substitute for one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience; and a master’s degree in nursing can substitute for two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience. Transfers: Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service that is eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law to Registered Nurse Supervisor I Rehab. Promotion Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must meet one of the following minimum qualifications: Be a current NYS Department of Health employee with one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service if they have possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State and two years of service in any Grade 18 or higher position that requires a registered professional nurse license; or one year of service in any Grade 20 or higher position that requires a registered professional nurse license. Non-Competitive Minimum Qualifications:Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and three years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience in an acute rehabilitation, acute inpatient critical care, or medical surgical setting. Minimum Qualifications Substitution:A bachelor’s degree in nursing can substitute for one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.Preferred Qualifications: ACLS, BSN, BS in health services or 30 credits towards a BSN or BS in health services. Supervisory experience. Assertive and self-directed with knowledge of SNF regulations, PRIs, MDS and DOH annual surveys and good communication skills. Managerial experience in staffing, scheduling and employee relations. Demonstrates excellent leadership skills.
