The Short Stay Medical Unit (SSMU) is a 10-bed unit located at the Juravinski Hospital. The Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, located on Hamilton’s beautiful mountain brow, is home to one of the largest and most comprehensive Regional Cancer Programs in Ontario. It offers a diverse set of patient care services including a comprehensive emergency department, medical and intensive care services, surgery oncology, hematology-oncology, stem cell transplants, orthopedics, arthroplasty, rehabilitation, and diagnostics. Using a client-centered approach, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides leadership in the coordination and evaluation of nursing care of patients with multisystem medical conditions awaiting transition to the community setting. The RN works collaboratively with interdisciplinary team members and community agencies to coordinate care and education of patients and their families. In this fast-paced environment, admitted patients are typically discharged within 72 hours or less. Through evidence-based clinical practice and strong leadership in healthcare delivery, the RN sets the standards of excellence in the care of patients at HHS. The RN establishes and implements education plans with and for patients and families and acts as an accessible and knowledgeable resource for patients and their families

Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
Minimum one (1) year nursing experience in a medical setting within the last 2 years preferred
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
Understanding of, and commitment to applying principles of Senior Friendly Care
Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, decision-making, communication, organizational, problem identification and problem-solving skills
