Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing care in the health care system within the scope of practice defined by the Nurse Practice Act and regulatory standards and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by the ANA code of ethics. The RN assures safety in practice and is inclusive of the principles of evidence based practice by maintaining a realization of own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for his/her own professional advancement. Responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments and medical errors. Responsible for knowledge of the patient population served. Responsible and accountable for the appropriate delegation of patient care to other members of the health care team. Will act in the capacity of preceptor of charge when needed. Communicate effectively and collaborate with nurses and other patient care providers. The RN is an individual practitioner and interdisciplinary team member integrating all aspects of the provision of care and individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient s needs. Other essential duties as required.

Qualifications Education/Training/Certification/Licensure:BA/BS/BSN degree preferred. Completion of Clinical experience in NLN accredited school preferred. Additional experience required based upon specific department needs. Current NJ RN Licensure required. Current American Heart Association CPR/BLS required. National certification preferred.

Essential Functions:

Maintain the standards of care and implement the policies and procedures of the hospital and Department,Perform evaluation of patient care according to applicable department standards and utilizing designated tools/systems,Perform assessment and reassessment of patients according to applicable department standards and identified codes,Initiate/develop care plans and discharge plans in accordance with department standards and using appropriate toolsSet goals and formulate appropriate multidisciplinary interventions to meet these goals,Utilizes a multidisciplinary approach in the delivery of patient care,Perform interventions in accordance with applicable policy and procedure, safety guidelines and infection-control principles,Provide patient/family education according to the plan of care,Document care/patient education to standards, utilizing designated tools, forms and systems,Base evaluation on patient s response to interventions, which include, but are not limited to, medications, treatments, and education,Delegate and prioritize work assignments according to the individual associate s competence and patient care needs,Communicate essential patient care information within appropriate time frames,Collect information from supportive healthcare members to assist in evaluation process,Integrate psychosocial, physical, nutritional and rehabilitation needs of the patient in patient care and discharge planning,Comply with unit and departmental scheduling guidelines,Demonstrate a clear understanding of the treatment needed for medical-surgical patients as appropriate to the aged of those patients,Demonstrate the ability to accept process change and a flexible work schedule, acting as a preceptor or charge nurse when assigned,Participates in 1/2 unit staff meetings,Participates in 1/2 Unit Based Committee or 1/2 of a hospital-wide committee,Actively participate in performance improvement activities
