The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice and coordination of care with other health team members.



Join Our Pediatric Float Pool at Primary Children’s Hospital

Intermountain Health is now hiring for a Registered Nurse – Pediatric Float Pool position at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Primary Children’s Hospital is the only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in a five-state region. Our facility includes a 32-bed PICU, 16-bed CICU, 28-bed Neuro Trauma Unit, and a 50-bed Level IV NICU. With over 1,500 neonatal and pediatric transports each year, our hospital is recognized for its commitment to excellence in pediatric care.

As a Pediatric Float Pool RN, you’ll play a critical role in supporting various pediatric units across the hospital, including medical-surgical, critical care, and specialty areas. This position is ideal for experienced pediatric nurses who thrive in dynamic environments and are passionate about delivering exceptional, family-centered care to children of all ages and conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver high-quality, compassionate nursing care across multiple pediatric units, adapting to patient acuity and unit needsCollaborate with interdisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plansEducate and support patients and their families throughout the continuum of careMaintain accurate, timely documentation and ensure safe, effective treatmentDemonstrate flexibility and resilience while floating between units based on staffing needs

Minimum Qualifications:

Current RN license to practice in Utah (or compact license transferred to Utah within 60 days of hire)Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providersRNs with less than 12 months of experience must obtain a BSN within four (4) years of their hire date

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution*Pediatric experience in acute care, critical care, or specialty units preferredPALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification preferredNational certifications (e.g., CPN, CCRN) encouraged

*As of the job description update on April 27, 2025, a BSN is required. Employees hired or promoted prior to this date are held to the previous requirements in place at their time of hire/promotion.

Posting Specifics:

Shift Details: Variable shifts (day, night, weekend, and holiday rotations may be required)Schedule: Full-time (36 hours/week), with flexibility to float to various pediatric units based on hospital needsLocation: Primary Children’s Hospital – Salt Lake City, UtahDifferential: 10% float and (10-25%) shift differentials available

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$34.53 - $52.25
