Registered Nurse- Clinical Coordinator- ICU

SUMMARY

Coordinates total nursing care for patients using nursing standards and the nursing process; perform professional nursing care, resolve patient care problems and interact with patients, families, emergency department staff, and other departments as warranted. Provide leadership working cooperatively with other healthcare providers. Main function will be dedicated to the daily running of the patient flow in the emergency department: creating daily assignments, directing workflow, and mentoring staff.

JOB DUTIES

To work collaboratively with the Director of ICU/Telemetry and the Chief Nursing Executive.

To support the staff clinically and to develop quality processes.

Perform as the charge nurse up to 16 hours per week. Flexible hours are preferred to facilitate time with off shifts.

Serve as a mentor/educator to staff.

Assists with interviews, new hires, orientation, pink sheets, schedules, multi-rater for evaluations, monthly staff meetings, counsels, and recommends termination of assigned staff with the assistance of the Director of ICU/Telemetry and Human Resources as reflected by staffing patterns, schedules, anecdotal, and disciplinary records.

Assures that the medical orders and patient’s plan of care is carried out promptly and efficiently.

Act on identified problems and/or situations and provide feedback with appropriate documentation.

Promotes an environment in which the patient care team can work cooperatively toward objectives.

Performs or delegates completion of monthly Quality Audits on the following: restraints, conscious sedation, transfers, Restraints > 72 hours summary log, Vent Bundle, M&M, Maintains Midline placement log and random chart audits.

Provide written documentation of staff education following quality audits when deficits occur.

Provides oversight of departmental policies to delegated staff nurse.

Attendance at meetings to be coordinated with Director of ICU/telemetry.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of an accredited School of Nursing.  BSN or MS is preferred.

A minimum of three years ICU experience and Charge Nurse experience necessary. Previous management experience preferred.

Current PA License and BLS/PALS/ACLS/Trauma/CPI/critical Care course.

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment.

Must be able to work in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment and take appropriate actions.

Must obtain NIH stroke certification prior to the completion of orientation in the position. Thereafter, must maintain NIH stroke certification, annually.  Additional stroke education is required.  Refer to Administrative Policy A-148 for specific stroke education requirements.
