The primary focus of this position is to assist in providing hands on, in the field training for the staff who work with the individual’s at OPWDD. The candidate will provide oversight to individuals with developmental disabilities who may have a variety of other medical and psychological diagnoses. • Provides health teaching, counseling, and education to individuals, families, staff and other groups• Will assist in the development of health improvement programs• Will provide training to staff on topics including (but not limited to) personal hygiene, infection prevention, pressure ulcer prevention, oxygen therapy, diabetes management, general skin care, and other nursing delegated tasks.• Attend and assist in NEO for AMAP course and Maintaining Good Health w MIPs material• Delegates responsibility for appropriate nursing activities, skills, and/or procedures to nursing and direct care staff.• Educates staff on how to maintain and update charts, records, and other documentation, consistent with agency, State, and federal requirements; and may collect data and perform related activities to support medical documentation.• Ensures that medications and treatments are administered according to approved policies and regulations. Provides oversight and training to staff administering medications, retraining in medication administration practices as needed and delegated nursing tasks.• Supervises individual's health care needs and works with house management to implement optimal care. Assess individuals, identifies needs and provides medical follow up (in conjunction with Residential RN).• Provides nursing component to the Interdisciplinary Team. Collaborates with clinicians, team members, families, and the medical community to provide optimal care for the individuals.• Incident Investigation and other duties as assigned.The Candidate must be able to perform CPR compressions on a supine individual on the floor. The Nurse demonstration of CPR compressions on the floor would ensure nurse ability to perform in worst case scenario, since we use no backboards in OPWDD. Other Duties as assigned by supervisor. Additional Comments • Please note that starting salary for this title reflects the increased hiring salary. Posted Hourly Rate includes the statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 18 ($66,951), and Increased Hiring Salary ($9,196).• If you are currently a New York State employee serving in a permanent competitive qualifying title and eligible for a transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, you may be appointed to this title as a permanent competitive employee.• The assignment of PS&T employees will be made in accordance with any agreed upon Memorandum of Understanding between PEF and the local DDSO regarding the posting of job vacancies.• Preference will be given to OPWDD employees impacted by closures.
