Scope of the Role

This role is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive Indirect Procurement roadmap across the EMEA region, supporting short-, mid-, and long-term growth. You will lead transformation initiatives, build key capabilities (e.g., spend analytics, category management, sourcing methodologies), and ensure operational excellence in indirect procurement — overseeing a spend of approximately $400M across all indirect categories.

You will drive alignment with global procurement strategies in collaboration with Global Category Managers, implement operational improvements, and ensure high performance across EMEA sites.

The role can be based in all Europe, with a preference for: Italy, Spain, Slovakia or Germany (Bensheim or Munich).

Responsibilities

Lead and develop the Indirect Procurement Team, playing a key role in the ongoing transformation of the function.

Ensure regional savings targets are achieved, including supplier base reduction, PR/PO efficiency, PCard and e-catalog adoption, MSA coverage, and overall spend management.

Define and implement best-in-class sourcing tools and methodologies to deliver budgeted savings.

Build and maintain a high-performing and motivated team, fostering collaboration with internal business partners and external suppliers.

Set and monitor clear performance objectives across the team.

Ensure suppliers align with cost reduction plans and are held accountable for performance.

Identify opportunities for spend bundling, synergies, and consolidation across DS entities/sites.

Promote a culture of continuous challenge of agreements and sourcing decisions to ensure company value.

Guarantee full compliance, ethical conduct, and diligence across procurement activities.

Manage relationships with third-party providers and outsourcing services.

Track and report on budget savings achievements, identifying and implementing initiatives through robust systems.

Collaborate with sites to standardize procurement processes and services, including manufacturing operations.

Act as point of accountability for escalations and operational challenges.

Partner with ProcurX and internal stakeholders to enhance spend classification and drive automation of the source-to-pay process.

Maintain and lead strategic supplier relationships and negotiations, together with RSL/GCM when needed.

Capture supplier innovation and ensure continuous improvement to drive cost sustainability and keep DS ahead of the market.

Provide coaching and develop talent, identifying skill gaps, creating training and career plans, and fostering a performance-driven culture.

Collaborate closely with key stakeholders (Product Management, Finance, R&D, Manufacturing) to align procurement with business strategies.

Represent the Indirect Procurement function in Regional Management Teams, reporting performance and seeking support to implement procurement initiatives.

Perform additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred

10+ years of experience in Indirect Procurement, with a strong background in leading cross-functional and multicultural teams (10+ members across countries or regions)

Proven experience in supplier contract management and complex negotiations

Demonstrated ability to manage multi-site, multi-location teams

Certifications (preferred)

CPP, CPM, SPSM or equivalent

Strong analytical and problem-solving ability

Capable of managing multiple priorities and projects in parallel

Experience leading virtual teams effectively

Fluent in English and German; French or Italian is a plus

Deep knowledge of strategic sourcing and category management

Proven track record in delivering measurable results across indirect categories

Ability to generate strategic value beyond cost savings, through operational and process improvements

Skilled at working across Divisions/Product Groups, facilitating cross-functional collaboration

Recognized leader and mentor, with a demonstrated ability to attract, retain, and develop talent
