Role summary

The Regional Payroll Director at Cencora is a critical and strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of payroll operations across Western or Eastern Europe.  The role will have in-country payroll teams in various countries across the region, providing support for 10-15,000 Cencora team members.  Working with the in-country team leaders and across all areas of Human Resources, the Regional Payroll Director will partner to identify opportunities and develop solutions for process improvements while providing both internal and external clients exemplary customer service. The role will also lead team development as well as reporting and monitoring department metrics to ensure level of service requirements are met while also ensuring compliance with legislation.

The role reports to the Vice President of HR Shared Services, Europe and APAC.

Main Responsibilities:

Lead and manage the payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees  

Drive SLA performance to ensure outstanding levels of payroll accuracy for over 10-15,000 Cencora team members.

Ensure all payroll-related legislation is correctly applied across payroll function.

Develop and implement payroll policies, procedures and best practices

Manage relationships with external vendors

Provide leadership and guidance to the payroll team, including training, mentoring and performance evaluations

Collaborate with internal stakeholders to address any payroll related issues, inquiries, processes

Act as point of escalation for any issues arising from the countries and be the first point of contact for senior regional leaders with questions about the payroll activities in the relevant countries.

Ensure full participation in necessary audits, both internal and external, and ensure lessons learnt are applied across all countries.

Play key part in implementation of the Cencora payroll strategy between 2025 and 2027

Working with the global project team, implement new Time and Attendance solutions across the countries supported. 

Collaborate with the HRIT team to continually develop and improve payroll-related technology, including continuous improvement of the automatic integrations between Workday and in-country payroll providers

Work with the other Regional Payroll Director to ensure uninterrupted support during absences for all payroll teams across Europe and deputise for the Vice-President of HR Shared Services when necessary

Stay current on changes in payroll laws and regulations that impact the organization

Required Skills:

Advanced proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft

Ease in a multi-agreement and multi-site context.

Leadership skills to drive performance and work through in-country leaders.

Confidentiality in handling sensitive employee information.

Ability to develop and maintain a large network of senior stakeholders

Good interpersonal skills to interact with various internal (HR) or external (social organizations) stakeholders.

Analytical mindset and ability to solve problems related to the complexities sometimes encountered in payroll.

Exceptional judgement on when to work independently and when to escalate issues to avoid problems being compounded.

Excellent English level is essential and a working knowledge of any of the following languages would also be useful: French, Spanish, Dutch, Lithuanian, Norwegian, German, Romanian or Turkish.

Education and Experience:

Degree in HR or related subject

Significant experience in managing payroll in European companies, ideally in a multinational group

Significant professional experience in a multi-site operational environment.
