Regional Medical Manager, EPD APAC
Our unique pharmaceutical business offers exposure to medicines, vaccines, and consumer healthcare products across a patient’s life cycle—from conception to later life—with brands originating from our established portfolio, wholly owned local companies, and local brands. We have an exciting opportunity for the right person to join the APAC medical team to lead medical strategy for biosimilars, challenge conventional thinking, and help deliver on our ambition to grow the business through expanded access to biologic therapies. As APAC Medical Manager, you will lead the development and execution of strategic medical plans to support Abbott’s Immunology and Oncology biosimilar brands across key indications in the Asia-Pacific region. This role is central to shaping clinical practice by providing deep technical expertise and generating relevant customer insights that drive advocacy and adoption of our biologic solutions. You will collaborate closely with global, regional, and affiliate teams to ensure cross-functional alignment and maximize the value and impact of our biosimilar portfolio. As part of the regional medical team, you will work to improve patient outcomes, elevate scientific engagement, and position Abbott as a trusted leader in biosimilars across APAC. **Core Job Responsibilities** + **Strategic Medical Planning** : Aligned cross functionally and addresses key levers to support advocacy and growth of Abbott’s Immunology & Oncology Biosimilar brands. Ensure identified strategic imperatives address customer needs across region and support key country launches and local strategies. + **Performance monitoring** : Institute regular cross functional execution review to ensure continued relevance of tactics and address emerging dynamics that impact healthcare environment/market such as new competition, change in regulation, market access challenges, etc. + **External Experts Engagement** : Map out relevant societies and region KOLs per therapeutic area and coordinate with countries to validate and develop impactful engagement plans. Lead regional insight generation activities with identified external experts, i.e. advisory board meetings, round table discussions, guideline discussions to help establish Abbott EPD reputation as a legitimate biologics company. + **Scientific communication:** Formulate clear and differentiated scientific value proposition. Develop scientific content for presentation in conferences and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards. Deliver clear and accurate scientific presentations to internal and external customers. Explain clinical and economic benefits of biosimilars and address questions on mechanism of actions, appropriate usage and adverse events. Conduct literature review and monitor scientific publications to maintain in depth knowledge of scientific developments in relevant TAs. + **Evidence Generation:** Liaise with countries to identify relevant evidence gaps to drive acceptance of Abbott’s biologics solutions and/or meet regulatory/market access requirements. Formulate pre-approval and/or post-approval evidence generation plan. Provide support to countries in managing proposed ISS during internal review and monitoring of implementation. Scope and prioritize clinical areas of interests for the region. Solicit and coordinate support from global functions (EM, global medical, global clinical, etc) to drive region projects. Ensure tracking and proper publication of executed clinical projects. + **Affiliate Collaboration and Support** : Provide guidance and support to ensure medical strategic plans are in place and well executed during pre-launch, launch and post launch phases through open, transparent and consistent communication. + **Launch excellence:** work closely with global, region and affiliate cross functional teams to ensure appropriate pre-launch and launch plans are in place and executed flawlessly. Define timelines, milestones and metrics of medical activities to track successful implementation. + **Training needs:** work with global functions to ensure local/regional teams are provided appropriate technical capabilities and up to date knowledge about biologics and relevant therapeutic areas + **Brand Differentiation** : Ensure close collaboration with global/regional marketing, market access and business operations to adapt and drive global brand positioning and messaging appropriate for APAC markets. Help identify affiliate-specific issues/needs and work with above country brand teams to develop solutions. + **Medico-Marketing Programs** : Ensure excellence in execution of planned/aligned medico-marketing programs; scientific communication and messaging, patient support/access programs (with market access), etc. + **Medical Governance:** Coordinate with relevant functions (OEC, Legal, Public Affairs, PV etc) to effectively provide guidance and ensure compliance with internal Abbott policies in engaging with external experts and scientific associations, patient groups, managing queries, referencing claims, implementing clinical projects, challenging competitor claims and other relevant activities. + **R** **epresent Asia** in Divisional/Global Biosimilars forums. **Requirements** + Science related university degree, preferably MD, PhD or MSc degree + Minimum 5 years of medical affairs experience in pharmaceutical industry in immunology and/or oncology TA at above country level; >7 years' experience at affiliate level + Experience with launching of biologic molecules + Wide knowledge of different healthcare environments in Asian countries An Equal Opportunity Employer Abbot welcomes and encourages diversity in our workforce.
