Overview
Marathon Petroleum Corporation’s North Dakota Refining Division is seeking a full-time QA/QC Refinery Inspector to join the Inspection Group within the Maintenance Department. This role will provide critical support to both the Mandan Refinery and the Dickinson Renewable Diesel Facility, ensuring compliance with quality standards and contributing to the safe and efficient operation of our facilities.
Based in Mandan, ND, this position reports to the Inspection Manager and is responsible for upholding all site-specific, MPC, and industry standards (including NBIC, API, and others). The role involves extensive collaboration with external contractors performing work both onsite and offsite.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the overall owner of the Mandan Refinery and Dickinson Renewable Diesel Facility QA/QC programs.Perform QA activities associated with new installations, project construction, and repair and replacement of existing assets. Asset types include, but are not limited to, piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, reactors, storage tanks, pumps, compressors, insulation/coatings, structural steel, and civil work.Distribute QA/QC checklists, inspections, completion lists, deficiency logs, and reports.Update iCON and iTAR with approved QC packages and status for routine, project, and TAR work as required.Develop, plan, schedule, and conduct QA/QC meetings.Track status and completion of punch list items.Attend vendor/shop inspection kick-off meetings.Arrange offsite inspection of assets during fabrication.Develop, review, and oversee inspection and test plans (ITP’s).Review vendor drawings, NDE procedures, and QA/QC programs and documentation.Review and approve repair packages to include code repairs.Conduct onsite and offsite audits of vendors to ensure compliance with approved QA/QC programs. Review and approve piping and equipment packages for Routine Maintenance, Construction, Turnaround, and Major Repairs. Develop and maintain Inspection and Mechanical Integrity Procedures to which assigned.Oversee MPC weld shop activities for adherence to weld procedures and valid welder qualifications.Develop and/or approve welding procedures and maintain welder testing records.Coordinate QC activities of contractor NDE technicians and inspectors.Support project engineering and TAR group with scope development and execution by attending regular meetings, reviewing and approving contractor QC packages, and approving completed QC packages.Education, Experience, and Skills
Minimum (Required) QualificationsMinimum high school diploma or GED.5+ years in refining, petrochemical or related industry experience.Must possess a current API 510 or API 570 certification. If both are not currently possessed, must be able to obtain the other within 3 years of employment.Must have current NBIC IS commission with NBIC R Endorsement. If not already holding certifications, must be able to obtain within 3 years of employment. Must have current AWS CWI certification or higher. If not already holding certification, must be able to obtain within 3 years of employment. Must be available to provide on-call and extended shutdown support as required, including nights and weekends.A valid driver’s license.Routine travel can be split approximately 50% at each site with extended support needed during outages and turnarounds. Company vehicle provided.Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.Preferred Qualifications10+ years industry experience with 5+ in quality assurance/quality control.Current API 510, API 570, and API 653 certifications.NBIC IS Commission with R endorsement.NACE/AMPP CIP Level I coating inspector certification or higher.AWS CWI or SCWI certification.Experience with GE’s Asset Performance Manager (APM).Experience with Risk-Based Inspections (RBI).Required SkillsMust be able to function in a team environment and effectively communicate with personnel of all levels and across multiple disciplines to include Engineering, Inspection, Operations, and Maintenance.Must be comfortable with leading and facilitating meetings.Must be proficient in MS Office programs including Outlook, Excel, Word, TEAM’s, PowerPoint, and OneNote.Able to wear all required PPE and be able to physically perform tasks in the field to including, but not limited to, confined space entry, fall protection, and respirator usage.This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level.
