Other responsibilities include: 1) Interviewing and observing residents to assess physical and mental status, capabilities, and interests, therapeutic recreational needs and planning appropriate interventions; 2) Designing and developing recreational programs and interventions addressing residents assessed needs; 3) Developing therapeutic care plan goals and evaluating residents progress toward goals and revises goals as needed; and 4) Supervising five employees. ** *Why Join DPHHS* ** Our mission at DPHHS is serving Montanans in their communities to improve health, safety, well-being, and empower independence. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities(Behaviors): Required for the first day of work: • Knowledge of recreation therapy interventions andpractices. • Knowledgeofpsychology,humanbehavioranddevelopment. • Knowledge of individual and group therapyprinciples. • Knowledge of recreational activities and relatedequipment. • Knowledgeofmentalillness,chemicaldependency,traumaticbraininjury,developmental disabilities; medical and physicaldisabilities. • Excellent written and verbal communicationskills. • Ability to operate personal computer and general office equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, including using spreadsheets, word processing, database, email, internet, and other computer programs. • Ability to facilitate collaboration and cooperation withothers. Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience): • Bachelor's degree in therapeuticrecreation, or a related field is preferredbutother combinations of education and/or experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. • Two years of recreation therapist workexperience. • National Council for Therapeutic Recreation certification is required within one year of employment. • Completion of approved recreation therapist internship may substitute for three months of the requiredexperience. • Preferred: Supervisory work experience. *How to Apply*** To be considered for a DPHHS position, submit the following required documents with your application on the State of Montana Careers website.
