Description
The City of Garden City is accepting applications for Recreation Supervisor with the Recreation Department. This position provides diverse recreation services that meet the needs and desires of residents of Garden City. Partners with others to ensure quality services are delivered efficiently and effectively.
Examples of Duties
+ Leads the Recreation Coordinator staff to create and implement the best method, dissemination, and collection of community input for programs, services, activities, special events, and facility development, and ensures staff completion.
+ Ensures that programs, services, activities, and special events are advertised effectively.
+ Collaborates with recreation staff to develop, coordinate, schedule, implement, and supervise a variety of recreational programs, including special events and facilities, that meet the diverse needs of the Garden City residents.
+ Evaluates all areas of the recreation programs and service delivery, making changes as needed for improvement.
+ Collaborates with the Recreation Superintendent, creates recreation performance standards, monitors key performance indicators, statistics, and ensures goals are met.
+ Creates reports for participation, performance goals, budgetary items, survey findings, parks and recreation advisory board, senior staff, city commission, and any other recreation-oriented report, as needed.
+ Supervises and/or instructs designated recreation classes according to program curriculum and philosophy, and modifies it according to participant skill and ability level.
+ Ensures recreation staff are prepared for recreation programs by ensuring staffing, proper program supplies and materials, equipment, proper safety measures, and other necessary items.
+ Ensures the safe opening and closing of recreation facilities as required and supervises facilities by enforcing program and facilities’ rules, regulations, and procedures.
+ Takes proper safety precautions and uses safety equipment to ensure the safety of all participants, volunteers, and employees.
+ Hires, trains, supervises, evaluates employee performance, and terminates full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees. May also hire contract employees.
+ Inspects facilities daily for cleanliness and safety; assists with daily/weekly cleaning.
+ Collaborates with recreation staff and the Recreation Superintendent to create recreation program budgets, monitors budget income and expenditures, and maintains compliance. Exercises good stewardship over division resources; creates cost analysis reports and identifies cost savings.
+ Develops community partners, sponsors, and donors. Searches for grants to offset program costs.
+ Responsive to community questions, concerns, and requests regarding recreation items.
+ Performs related duties as required.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Skill required in managing employees, administrative work, and in creating, planning, and implementing recreational programming. Must possess general knowledge of a variety of recreational activities and equipment required. First Aid, CPR, and AED training is required. Must be able to effectively communicate and engage patrons, demonstrating excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills. Excellent organizational skills. Knowledge of the Microsoft Office product suite and ability to learn GCPR recreation management software, as well as other City software.
Education, Certification, and Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, physical education, fitness, sports management, or a closely related field. Applicants who can demonstrate an equivalent combination of experience and training may also be considered.
