Women and minorities are under-represented in this job category and are encouraged to apply. *Specific Job Information:* The position is a full-time permanent position within Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks, Parks and Outdoor Recreation Division located in the Bitterroot District. The district sites are, approximately twenty Fishing Access Sites and three State Parks, including a National Historic Landmark and National Register site. Travelers' Rest State Park includes a visitor center that is open year-round. This position frequently requires work in a sedentary office environment but also requires rigorous work outdoors under adverse weather conditions and irregular hours. The position requires spending time away from home or permanent workstation. Approximately 25% of the time is spent traveling. Weekend and evening work is common. Work is typically accomplished without immediate supervision. Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks Region 2 is in west central Montana. The character of the region is defined by Rocky Mountain peaks reach above 10,000 feet and valley trout streams stretching over 1,500 miles. Deer, elk, moose, sheep, black bears, and mountain goats inhabit the region, providing a diversity of hunting and wildlife viewing opportunities. Over 62% of the region is public land, offering a variety of recreational opportunities to area residents and visitors. Region 2 currently manages ten state parks, fifteen wildlife management areas, and over 75 fishing access sites. River recreation on the Bitterroot, Clark Fork, and Blackfoot rivers provide diverse opportunities for float or wade angling, floating on inner tubes, whitewater rafting, and scenic floating. The region has several mountain ranges and unique wildlife habitat that blends with privately owned and agricultural lands in lower elevations. The diverse landscape offers a wealth of recreational opportunity for fishing, hunting, exploring, hiking, skiing, camping, floating, sightseeing, birdwatching, picnicking, bike riding, wildlife viewing, ATV riding, snowmobiling, and boating. The region's largest community, Missoula, sits on the banks of the Clark Fork River and is home to the University of Montana. Missoula is a cultural and commercial center for the region, supporting activities such as indoor and outdoor concerts, live theatre venues, festivals, and art walks. The area is within 3-4 hours of both Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks and offers sites of national significance such as the National Bison Range, Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge, Flathead Lake, Travelers' Rest, Lola Trail, and Nez Perce Trail National Historic Landmarks, and the Ice Age Flood National Trail. The position is a full-time permanent position within Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks, Parks and Outdoor Recreation Division located in the Bitterroot District. Travelers' Rest State Park includes a visitor center that is open year-round. *Job Duties:* The person in this position manages and coordinates all daily operations of Travelers Rest, Fort Owen, and Painted Rocks State Park as well as Fishing Access Sites within the Bitterroot District boundaries that stretch mostly along the Bitterroot River from Lolo upstream to Painted Rocks Reservoir. This includes administrative, operational, light maintenance, interpretive programing, public relations activities, visitor center management and supports permanent and seasonal staff. This position will be based at Travelers' Rest State Park in Lolo (about 8 miles south of Missoula) and will oversee recreation on FWP sites in the beautiful Bitterroot Valley. Site types are diverse and include well-developed, rustic, and quasi-backcountry areas. The river sites along the Bitterroot River are extremely busy during the peak season. The district also includes a Special Recreation Permit program for commercial users on the West Fork of the Bitterroot River which the manager oversees and administers. Management of these sites require individuals who can adapt to changing priorities; can work well with a wide range of constituents including NGO, volunteers, and tribal partners; is well versed in daily visitor center operations; and who has long-range vision for recreation and stewardship that are integral to community identity. Two of the state parks have active friend’s groups, and the ability to successfully sustain and manage these partnerships is essential to this position. The successful candidate should have experience in recreation management, interpretive programming, historic preservation, special use permitting, visitor center management, and collaboration with government organizations. This position is an important member of the Parks and Outdoor Recreation Division in Region 2 and will work closely with the Regional Recreation Manager, other Recreation Managers, Regional Maintenance Manager, Regional Access Manager, Area Game Wardens, and other peers to create strong, vibrant, cohesive recreation management across this district and the region. *Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):* Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience): The knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position are normally attained through a Bachelor’s Degree in Park Management, Resource Conservation, Outdoor Recreation, or a related field and at least 2 years of job-related experience.
