RCM Coordinator Prior Authorization

WHO WE ARE

We are VITAS Healthcare, the nation’s leading end-of-life care provider since 1978.

Our hospice organization kickstarts careers in caring, promotes from within, and provides a nationally recognized best-in-class employee experience. Supported by industry-leading experts and an expanding network of programs in 15+ states, VITAS empowers team members to grow toward their goals while transforming patients’ lives.

Our priority is to care: For our patients, for each other, and for the future.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As a Prior Authorization Coordinator at VITAS, you are a key part of the patient’s hospice journey behind the scenes. You will be among the first to ensure the patient’s insurance information is accurate and complete, setting the financial foundation for their care. Your work helps eliminate roadblocks that could delay services, making it possible for patients to receive timely and appropriate care.

With this in mind, you will use your knowledge of insurance guidelines, attention to detail, and communication skills to verify benefits, secure authorizations, and maintain accurate records. You'll collaborate with internal teams, payors, and care providers to obtain approvals and resolve discrepancies, ensuring a seamless experience for both patients and clinicians.

Clinicians and leadership will rely on you to prioritize verifications, initiate authorizations, and enter critical payor information into our systems—always with accuracy, urgency, and compliance in mind.

With your insurance expertise, problem-solving ability, and commitment to excellence, you will help ensure the care VITAS promises can be delivered without administrative delays, supporting patients and their families from behind the scenes every step of the way.

WHERE YOU’LL WORK

This is a hybrid position, with four days worked on-site at our Miramar location and one day worked remotely from home.

WHAT’S EXPECTED FROM YOU

VITAS Prior Authorization Coordinators use exceptional attention to detail, insurance knowledge, and communication skills to ensure accurate and timely financial clearance for hospice patients. You will be a vital part of the patient journey—working behind the scenes to confirm benefits, secure authorizations, and help eliminate administrative barriers to care.

In addition to a high school diploma or GED and reliable computer skills, you should have at least two years of healthcare revenue cycle experience—ideally in financial clearance or registration—and a strong understanding of insurance guidelines, medical terminology, and clinical documentation. Knowledge of commercial payor requirements and prior authorization processes is essential.

You will be relied upon to verify benefits for Medicaid, private insurance, and self-pay sources; obtain and maintain prior authorizations; enter critical payor information into our systems; and collaborate with internal teams, providers, and insurance representatives to ensure accuracy and timeliness. A clear understanding of how your role impacts the revenue cycle and patient experience is key to your success.

Additionally, you’ll bring the traits that define the VITAS Difference: Commitment, Compassion, and a Can-do Attitude. You will approach each task with purpose and integrity, knowing your work helps make high-quality, end-of-life care accessible to those who need it most.

At VITAS, you will be more than just an employee—you’ll be a respected expert and essential member of a team that makes a difference every day. With our support, you’ll find fulfillment in your work and room to grow personally and professionally.
