The Rapid Prototype Engineer I for Cytiva is responsible for Managing the lab & developing its capabilities to best support R&D projects
This position is part of the Lab Filtration R&D team located in Portsmouth, UK and will be onsite. At Cytiva, our vision is, to advance future therapeutics from discovery to delivery.
What you will do:
Manage R&D’s Engineering Lab – maintenance and operation of its wide range of machinery and equipment including 3D printingExecute R&D prototype runs – Build & test prototypes for a range of R&D projects giving manufacturing, engineering and design feedback to aid concept development and transfer to manufacturingLead projects to develop the Workshop’s capabilities in line with new project needs with minimal supervision including design of tooling and management of purchases via external vendorsSupport adjacent global R&D teams with mechanical engineering support, prototype/tool development, technical drawing supportLead small international engineering based projects, or contribute as Engineering lead on larger ones.Who you are:
BEng/MEng in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering + minimum 2 years of Industrial experienceAlternatively 4+ years manufacturing experience working with machinery or similar equipmentProficiency with 3D CAD software such as Solid WorksProficiency with Mechanical equipment, hand tools and 3D printingExperience working in a Project EnvironmentTravel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
Ability to travel – 5-10% of time, typically 1-2 days within UK (e.g. supplier visits, or UK site visits for training), with occasional international travel lasting up to 1 week (e.g. to USA), expected 1-2 times per yearMust have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving recordAbility to lift, move or carry equipment up to 10kg (22lbs)It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Life science based manufacturing including mass production with small plastic componentryExperience with filtration materials and technologiesExperience with plastic welding and sealing technologiesPractical hands-on skills having been intimately involved in new product development and associated roll out to manufacturingThis job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
