Responsibilities:
- Perform manual labor tasks in the railyard, including hammering plates, utilizing pry bars, and handling railroad ties using tools like tie picks and cant hooks.
- Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the railyard by shoveling sludge and creosote, cleaning drip trays and the dock (including power washing), operating lawn care equipment (weed eater, push mower), and removing snow and ice.
- Handle and move materials, including lifting and placing band rolls, cutting bands, hooking/unhooking tram pullers, lifting/lowering absorbent bags (up to 40 lbs), and pushing/pulling full creosote barrels.
- Assist with general maintenance tasks such as painting buildings and equipment, applying chains to tram cars, and utilizing pneumatic tools for tasks like drilling and installing spikes and nails into ties.
Working hours: Various Shifts Available
Skills:
- Experience in general labor, construction, or rail yard environments.
- Familiarity with operating basic power equipment such as weed eaters, push lawnmowers, and pneumatic tools (drills, jackhammers, hammers).
- Basic knowledge of safety procedures and practices relevant to railyard operations.
- Ability to perform basic maintenance tasks, such as painting.

- Physical stamina and strength to perform demanding outdoor labor, including lifting up to 40 lbs, repetitive motions (hammering), and working on uneven terrain and potentially oiled surfaces.
- Proficiency in using various hand tools such as hammers, wrenches, pliers, sledgehammers, pry bars, shovels, and rakes effectively and safely.
- Ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety protocols while performing tasks such as handling chemicals, operating power washing equipment, and working around heavy machinery.
- Reliability and a strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a physically challenging outdoor environment.
