Job Description

Job Summary 

The Radiology Assistant supports the daily operations of the imaging department by assisting technologists, preparing patients for procedures, maintaining equipment and supply areas, and performing basic administrative duties. This role contributes to efficient workflow and high-quality patient care by ensuring readiness of imaging spaces, supporting patient comfort and safety, and facilitating communication among the radiology team and other departments. 

Essential Functions

Prepares patients for imaging procedures by verifying identification, screening for allergies and contrast, and assisting with positioning and comfort measures. Assists imaging technologists with room turnover, equipment cleaning, and exam preparation using proper infection control and aseptic techniques. Supports contrast-related procedures under appropriate supervision by preparing supplies, setting up injectors, and following applicable safety protocols. Maintains awareness of safety requirements, including MRI zone protocols, ferrous object restrictions, radiation safety (ALARA), and emergency procedures. Maintains adequate stock of supplies and equipment, placing orders and organizing materials to support efficient daily operations. Performs basic administrative duties, including chart preparation, order entry, record retrieval, and phone communication with staff, providers, and families. Supports patient transport, transfers, and discharge processes as directed by imaging or nursing staff. Participates in remote support workflows, including telemedicine assistance for positioning, patient communication, and procedure support, where applicable. Communicates promptly with supervisors or clinical leads regarding patient care issues, safety concerns, equipment problems, or supply shortages. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

1-2 years of experience in a clinical or imaging setting preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Basic understanding of imaging procedures and patient care practices. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and work in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with electronic health records and clinical computer systems. Knowledge of infection prevention and safety procedures in a clinical setting.

Licenses and Certifications

BCLS - Basic Life Support obtained within 30 days of hire required CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant preferred or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)-AAMA preferred or CPCA - Certified Patient Care Assistant preferred or Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) preferred or EMT - Emergency Medical Tech Certification preferred or LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure preferred
