Your role and responsibilities

The Global Solution Center for Consumer industries specializes in robot-centric automation solutions for e-commerce, retail, fresh food, non-food and express parcel segments. As part of the Research & Development team at the Global Solution Center you will be directly involved in the development of modular applications that are offered as standing alone solutions or which will be part of larger engineered solutions for ABB end-customers.As a Robotics Engineer you will have end-to-end responsibility for software development, testing, and validation for key applications related to logistics and machine tending. Moreover, you will be responsible for the on-site deployment at the customer. You will be part of our R&D team, a group of experts in robotics, software, vision and control, who is responsible for implementing high innovative products in an efficient and economical manner, meeting the rapidly growing demands of the robotics market. In this role you will be directly responsible for robot programing and overall application validation. You will also collaborate with our global team and will engage with key functions such as Operations, Portfolio, Supply chain, and Sales. You will be mainly accountable for:•\tTranslating product requirements into technical requirements•\tWorking out the functional design of the robotic part of the system•\tPerforming technical analysis (e.g., flowcharts, interface specifications, and communication diagrams)•\tDefining and integrating automation components (hardware, sensors, and actuators) for gripper manipulation and other peripherals•\tCarrying out functional tests, validation tests, and endurance tests on cell level during product and project development•\tTaking full responsibility for robot code development (ABB Robot Studio) and path planning•\tAcquiring basic knowledge of C# .NET software tools, in addition to focusing on robot and robot software•\tCoordinating suppliers for prototyping and peripheral design•\tPerforming simulations, emulations, and commissioning of test cells in our workshop•\tExecuting on-site commissioning and site acceptance tests for customer pilots•\tValidating product functionality based on the technical requirement document•\tContributing to the interfaces definition to 3rd party equipment in development and customer project execution•\tWriting documentation and providing training to the customer service team

Qualifications for the role

\tAn Engineering degree in electromechanics, electronics or automation (or equivalent by experience);\tStrong mechanical reasoning capabilities to visualize work output;\tExperience with robot programming, in particular Rapid is an asset;\tWilling to follow a training programs within our Training Academy regarding our Robotics standard;\tSolution and pragmatic mindset;\tDetail oriented with good analytical and problem-solving skills;\tCapable of contributing positively to group efforts;\tAble to take framework constraints into account and build creative solutions;\tOn site presence required in Huizingen with 10 to 15% traveling abroad;\tFluent in Dutch or French with a good knowledge of English;
