Your role at Clorox:

We are looking for a creative and technically rigorous Principal Scientist to help define the technology of the future for Fresh Step, Scoop Away, and Ever Clean Cat Litter. As a Product Development Subject Matter Expert, you will develop a pipeline of technology to deliver unmet consumer needs, drive technical accuracy in product development, and lead technical innovation. You will translate concepts into desired consumer experiences and identify technology options to bring new innovations to life. You will champion a growth mindset by demonstrating hands on bias for action, showcasing creativity in claims and demo development, and providing coaching and mentoring to scientists.

In this role, you will:

Partner with Brand, Insights, and R&D Innovations leads to identify and recommend a pipeline of technical discoveries that enable innovation concepts. Drive technical rigor in product development by utilizing and improving the Work Processes, Best Practices, and Standards. Identify gaps and partner with SME’s inside and outside the business to ensure technical rigor continues to meet the evolving needs of the Litter BU. Drive ‘See It, Show It, Sell It’ within the group by encouraging creative thinking on claims and demos to bring innovations to life.Drive Superior Consumer Experience in product by connecting consumer drivers of liking to technical attributes and develop robust test methods that correlate to consumer perception. Serve as a product development expert and lead technical development on innovation and executional projects. Ensure seamless integration with process development and scale up technology.

What we look for:

BS in a relevant Science or Engineering (Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Geology, Chemistry)8+ years CPG experience, with a primary focus in Product Development (solids preferred, natural raw materials a plus)CPG Development of Products with experience in creating technology platforms, driving technical rigor, creating new test methods, setting specifications, creating demos, and partnering with process and packagingExperience in agglomeration technology, scale up, process development or manufacturing a plusUnderstands and values Technical Rigor with a track record of leading projects with accuracy, identifying and communicating risks and developing mitigation workplansDemonstrated ability to break down a product concept into consumer needs and identify technology options to deliver against the conceptBe able to develop/formulate new products internallyHave the ability to scout and assess external technologiesDemonstrated ability to build and implement new tools or processes (such as test methods, demos, SOPs)Know how to successfully onboard and mentor new scientists

Workplace type:

Hybrid: This individual will work in the Pleasanton office 3 days a week and work remotely the other two days.

Your starting pay will depend on job-related factors, including relevant skills, knowledge, experience and location. The applicable salary range for every role in the U.S. is based on your work location and is aligned to one of three zones according to the cost of labor in your area.

–Zone A: $124,300 - $244,900–Zone B: $114,700 - $224,500–Zone C: $103,600 - $204,100

This job is also eligible for participation in Clorox’s incentive plans, subject to the terms of the applicable plan documents and policies.
