SUMMARY:
The R&D Engineer is responsible for supporting the development of new products from concept through to production. This includes involvement in technical quoting, prototype/sample preparation, validation testing, detailed design, and working closely with suppliers and internal production teams. The role requires a hands-on approach to product development, ensuring new designs meet performance, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Support the preparation of technical quotations by evaluating customer requirements, estimating design and manufacturing feasibility, and contributing to cost assessments.Coordinate and prepare prototypes and samples to support customer trials, internal testing, and design reviews.Conduct and document validation testing to ensure new products meet functional, performance, and compliance requirements.Develop detailed product designs and specifications using CAD software, design standards, analysis, FMEA, DFA/DFM and engineering principles.Collaborate with suppliers to source components, obtain manufacturability feedback, and ensure timely procurement for prototypes and production.Work closely with internal production teams to transition new designs to manufacturing, including process development, troubleshooting, and documentation.Participate in design reviews and project meetings to ensure alignment with technical and commercial objectives.Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance product performance, reduce cost, or improve manufacturing processes.Maintain accurate engineering documentation, including drawings, BOMs, validation reports, and revision control records.EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field.
MANAGEMENT:
This position does not have direct reports.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 2–4 years of experience in a product development or R&D environment.Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or similar).Understanding of engineering materials, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacturability.Experience with prototype development and testing methodologies.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Effective communication and collaboration skills across engineering, suppliers, and manufacturing teams.Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to shifting project priorities.Familiarity with quality systems, documentation control, and validation protocols is an advantage.Occasional travel may be required to suppliers or manufacturing sites.Experience with hydraulics/valves preferred but not required
