Overview:
We are looking for a strategic and analytically driven Quantitative Risk Analyst Expert to join our First Line Credit Risk Management team. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep expertise in retail lending, credit risk management, and advanced analytics, who can effectively communicate complex insights across all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead Quantitative Analysts in establishing, monitoring, evaluating and interpreting data with a credit risk management focus and an understanding of business strategy by applying analytical and decision science frameworks. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate complex analytical findings into clear, performance-focused insights that support strategic discussions and decision-making aligned with organizational objectives.Mentor and, where appropriate, supervise team members, supporting the development of their statistical modeling, analytical, and business acumen—particularly in relation to the retail lending products managed by the department and in support of key financial processes.Demonstrate working knowledge of Credit Risk data to provide data and analytical support to Senior Management.Perform data manipulation and analysis using SAS and/or Python, SQL and Microsoft Office Applications and present results and recommendations to various stakeholders.Track portfolio performance and risk strategy results. Incorporate observations and data into existing analytical processes to improve predictive results and/or refine key messaging.Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk governance and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.Maintain M&T’s internal control and risk governance standards, including the timely resolution of internal and external audit findings, as well as any issues raised by external regulators, as applicable.Complete other related duties as assigned.Education and Experience Required:Bachelor’s degree,

A combined minimum of 11 years higher education and/or work experience to include a minimum of 7 years relevant experience.

Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Quantitative Analysis or another technical discipline, with minimum of 5 years relevant experience or in lieu of degree, a combined minimum of 11 years higher education and/or work experience to include a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.
Minimum of 7 years relevant experience
Banking or Financial Services experience
Experience with SAS, SAS Enterprise Miner and other Statistical Software Packages.
Advanced Knowledge of SQL and Microsoft Office.
Ability to utilize analytics in a collaborative manner across business functions and product lines to derive optimum solutions.
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts.
Demonstrated ability to manipulate and analyze data across large databases.
Credit Analysis experience.
Accounting background, strong knowledge of CECL, ACL governance, Stress Testing and Credit Loss Forecasting Techniques
