The Quality Inspector – Level 2 MetLab position, under general supervision, is responsible for ensuring customer and company metallurgical quality requirements sample preparation, inspecting products, and performing quality audits including repetitive visual, mechanical, dimensional, and functional inspection. Primarily accountable for performing destructive testing of raw material and incoming products to ensure compliance with company standards.
Performance Expectations
Metallurgical sample preparation and measurement of micro and macro hardness characteristics. Evaluate the quality of material test samples and field data in order to recommend adjustments. Perform destructive testing and evaluation. Extract samples for cleanliness testing and perform contamination tests. Keeping records of measurements in order. Perform regular equipment TPMs and equipment maintenance to keep in working order. Additional duties in the laboratory and in manufacturing areas as assigned and needed. Ensure all assigned duties are completed on schedule. Intermediate drawing interpretations and SPC principles. Proficient at the various inspection and testing requirements. Issue Nonconforming Material Tags. Understand IATF processes including nonconforming material, identification, and inspection processes. Assist with capability studies and audits as needed. Adhere to all H&S and environmental laws and procedures.Credentials
Minimum three years experience in Automotive Manufacturing environment or related experience. Previous experience working with metallurgical laboratory equipment. Ability to interpret microstructures of ferrous and nonferrous materials. Able to read blueprints and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Ability to use a cutting saw to prepare samples for metallurgical evaluation. Ability to decide which methods to use to prepare samples for analysis. Able to use measuring and evaluation equipment effectively, including but not limited to scopes, weight scales, hardness testers, microscopes, micrometers, verniers etc. Use technical skills and knowledge to identify cause of problem. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel). Ability to read and understand company procedure manuals. Familiar with IATF 14969 and ISO14001Desired Characteristics
Ability to resolve conflicts and determine reasons for errors in products.
Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, other technologists and technicians and other staff.
Make continuous improvement recommendations to quality management.
Possess good interpersonal skills in order to interact with other team members and to coordinate work and exchange information during quality meetings.
Ability to work independently, coordinating work with work of others as needed.
