Quality Improvement Specialist - Breast Imaging

Founded in 1906, McLeod Health is a locally owned and managed, not for profit organization supported by the strength of more than 900 members on its medical staff and more than 2,900 licensed nurses. McLeod Health is also composed of approximately 15,000 team members and more than 90 physician practices throughout its 18-county service area. With seven hospitals, McLeod Health operates three Health and Fitness Centers, a Sports Medicine and Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, Hospice and Home Health Services. The system currently has 988 licensed beds, including Hospice and Behavioral Health. The hospitals within McLeod Health include: McLeod Regional Medical Center, McLeod Health Dillon, McLeod Health Loris, McLeod Health Seacoast, McLeod Health Cheraw, McLeod Health Clarendon and McLeod Behavioral Health.  

Quality Improvement Specialist – Breast Imaging

 

Job Summary: The Quality Assurance Specialist (QAS) for Breast Imaging will have oversight of all regulatory compliance issues, including all aspects of the Mammography Quality Standards for McLeod Hospital Systems. The QAS will be responsible for coordination of tasks and documentation for Quality Assurance. The QAS ensures the department consistently produces high quality mammographic exams and procedures to aide in medical diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

Job Duties:

1. Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance programs to ensure compliance with MQSA, FDA, ACR, NAPBC, and other regulatory bodies at MRMC.

2. Conduct mandatory regular quality control checks on all mammography equipment, including calibration and image performance testing, per MQSA guidelines at MRMC.

3. Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date records of QA/QC activities, audits, corrective actions, and patient outcomes.

4. Oversee investigations of imaging discrepancies, patient complaints, and equipment malfunctions at all MRMC Campuses.

5. Coordinate with the Medical Director of Breast Imaging and Breast Imaging Supervisor to ensure that imaging protocols are developed, maintained, and aligned with best practices for safety and accuracy.

6. Support onboarding and training new staff regarding QC/QA processes and regulatory requirements.

7. Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to quality assurance and compliance in collaboration with the Medical Director of Breast Imaging, Breast Imaging Supervisor, and Director of Breast & Women’s Health.

8. Facilitate mandatory continuing education requirements and competency assessments for Breast Imaging Technologists and Radiologists.

9. Ensure patient records and imaging data comply with HIPAA and confidentiality regulations; oversee that patient notification letters are sent in accordance with MQSA requirements.

10. Track and manage equipment maintenance schedules and vendor service reports at MRMC.

11. Collaborate with leadership to resolve quality and compliance issues at MRMC.

12. Review and update the MRMC Breast Imaging Coordinator Reporting Home Page daily.

13. Assist with patient care as needed by the department and perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications/Training:

Minimum of 2 years of experience in Mammography AND Quality Control Testing. Previous MQSA, ACR, and other regulatory standards governing mammography experience required. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail required. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and compliance required. Proficient in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, PACS, and Microsoft Office Suite required.

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

Graduate of a 24-month AMA approved and accredited school of Radiologic Technology required. Registered or Registry eligible by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology in Mammography (ARRT-M) required. If registry eligible, such registration will be obtained within 1 year of hire. Certification by the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association required. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required (American Hospital Association).
