Summary:
Performs quality improvement initiatives ensuring quality, patient safety, compliance and high reliability principles for assigned departments and units throughout the organization.
Responsibilities:
1. Quality Specialist Major Accountabilities Criteria A: Utilizes process improvement strategies (i.e. Lean, Six Sigma) to conduct analysis of data and in collaboration with department/unit leadership. Promotes processes that increase patient safety, quality, efficiency and patient satisfaction. Quality Specialist Major Accountabilities Criteria B: Supports assigned departments/units in applying High Reliability Principles and utilizes project management skills to facilitate improvements that have positive impact on patient safety and quality. Quality Specialist Major Accountabilities Criteria C: Collaborates and coordinates with Peer Review partners during the Peer Review Process, ensuring appropriate case referral and thorough review of patient care. Quality Specialist Major Accountabilities Criteria D: Functions as an expert resource to assigned department/unit for interpreting and ensuring adherence to all Joint Commission, State and Federal standards, including Core measures.
2. Quality Specialist Major Accountabilities Criteria A: Assists assigned departments/units with analyzing Patient Satisfaction/HCAPS data and partners with leadership to develop strategies to improve patient satisfaction. Quality Specialist Major Accountabilities Criteria B: Conducts patient reviews and collaborates with Risk/Patient advocacy to identify issues and opportunities for improvement. Quality Specialist Major Accountabilities Criteria C: Independently conducts Root cause analyses, common cause analyses and risk assessments utilizing High Reliability methods to identify system issues and assist department/unit leadership with development of process changes to improve patient safety, quality and risk mitigation. Quality Specialist Major Accountabilities Criteria D: Provides formal and informal education on topics applicable to the department/unit assigned.
3. Quality Specialist Major Accountabilities Criteria A: Conducts annual review with department/unit leadership of Quality Improvement plan/program to ensure the development of processes or initiatives that support quality practices. Quality Specialist Major Accountabilities Criteria B: Teams up with department/unit leadership to gather pertinent data and metrics to ensure quality outcomes. Provide data to Quality leaders to report to applicable outside agencies and system Boards. Quality Specialist Major Accountabilities Criteria C: Participates in ongoing education specific to role function. Attains appropriate Quality Certification(s) and maintains active membership in appropriate associations (CHA, CTAHQ, NAHQ). Quality Specialist Major Accountabilities Criteria D: Maintains confidentiality of information encountered through job activities.

Education: BACHELOR'S LVL DGRE
Other Information:
Required: This position requires a minimum formal education of Bachelor Degree and minimum of five years job-related experience.
Minimum Experience: five years
Desired: Current CT RN and/or PA license. Strong leadership, facilitation skills, ability to work with multidisciplinary groups, team building, project management, knowledge of hospital structure and functions, ability to provide presentations and education, analytic and problem solving, strong written and verbal skills, ability to process large amounts of information and interpret standards and regulations, ability to work independently, prioritize, self direction and set independent goals.
