Reporting to the Director of Quality and Professional Development, the Quality Consultant provides evidence-based advice, consultation, leadership, and is a resource to care home staff, clinical, and program leaders; senior leaders; and stakeholders regarding quality and clinical standards (national, provincial and internal), quality and clinical policies and procedures.

The Quality Consultant fosters evidence-based practice for care delivery that meets legislative, provincial and Accreditation standards and is aware of best current evidence and trends in the industry. Quality Assurance activities are key to monitoring and sustaining clinical practice and the Quality Consultant works with other members of the Quality Department, the Learning and Development Department and Care Home/Program leaders to ensure that clinical standards are consistently met.

The Quality Consultant participates in the creation and revision of policies and procedures related to clinical practice, quality of care and resident/client safety. The Quality Consultant collaborates closely with the Learning and Development Department, IPC and other stakeholders in developing policies and procedures, implementation and sustainment plans as well as quality assurance activities.

This position will promote integration and translation of quality improvement and resident safety initiatives into day to day operations through collaboration with health care leaders, managers, and physicians to provide leadership and expertise in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of improvement initiatives designed to improve quality of care, service utilization, safety, and risk reduction to produce measurable outcome results that meet established requirements, standards and legislation.

Educational and other Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing or equivalentActive registration with the applicable provincial professional nursing associationSupplemental courses in adult educationGerontology certificate preferredResearch background or statistics courses preferred

Work Experience

Minimum 5 years’ experience working in geriatricsMinimum 5 years’ experience in continuing care and senior health in a leadership roleExperience in the utilization and analysis of clinical dataExperience with quality improvement tools and techniques, process redesign and/or project leadership skills required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Training in project management preferred.Experience in change management preferred.Experience in accreditation certification required.Basic research and evaluation skills.Experience in incident analysis.A demonstrated knowledge of current legislation regarding confidentiality and how it relates to fair information practices.Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement principles, methods, and tools.Demonstrated leadership skills.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the organization.Demonstrated skills in facilitation, presentation, and teaching skills.Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.Ability to effectively present and clarify requirements, expectation, ideas and concepts to various audiences/stakeholders.Creates and achieves results by engaging, facilitating and influencing individual, group or departmental goals.Ability to inspire and guide individuals towards goal achievement.Ability to develop and communicate solution/responses to diverse user problems and/or requests.Ability to operate related equipment and proficiency in the use of computer software programs.Must be familiar with quality improvement methods, tools, and software, such as Microsoft Word, SharePoint, Excel, and PowerPoint.Adept at written and oral communication with internal and external customers.Exhibits strong analytical skills, application of gap-analysis and needs assessments, and is solution focused.Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the strategic directions for The Good Samaritan Society/Good Samaritan Canada.Maintains an individual's dignity and self-worth during conversations.Excellent active listening skills.Demonstrate flexibility by changing routine to accommodate client/resident needs.Accepts, implements and evaluates change with a positive attitude.Active driver’s license is required for travel between care homes and head/regional office.Travel and flexible hours.Training/support requests may take place during hours outside of regular business hours to meet the needs of staff who work alternative shifts.Working under stringent timelines associated with project demands.Constant demands of an ever changed dynamic health system and its evolving standards requirements.

Requirements:

A current and clear Criminal Records Check Form and if applicable a Vulnerable Sector Check that has been obtained no more than 90 calendar days prior to the hire date. A tuberculosis screening that has been completed no more than 12 months prior to the hire date.Diversity-Equity-Inclusion
