Quality Assurance Technician

Position: QA Technician
Location: Boulder, CO
Shift: Weekend Shift | Friday–Sunday
Pay Range: $20.00 – $24.00/hour, based on experience
Industry: Advanced Manufacturing / Optics

Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented QA Technician to join a precision optics manufacturing team on the weekend shift (Friday through Sunday). The QA Technician plays a critical role in ensuring that optical components and assemblies meet all geometric, surface quality, and performance specifications. This position is mobile and operates directly at the source of manufacture, supporting production through hands-on inspection and metrology.

This position reports to the Quality Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:Inspection & Documentation

Qualify optical components and processes against geometric and surface quality tolerances

Perform inspections according to ISO 10110, MIL-PRF-13830, and MIL-PRF-48616 standards

Identify optical components and verify alignment with process documentation

Use inspection tools such as calipers, drop gauges, video microscopes, and tweezers

Inspect packaging to ensure it is free of foreign object debris (FOD)

Create labels, Certificates of Conformance (CoC), and complete shipping documentation

Metrology & Testing

Conduct metrology using equipment for:

Surface figure and irregularity (plano surfaces)

Transmitted wavefront and wedge

Reflected wavefront

Radius and wavefront irregularity (curved surfaces)

Perform environmental and durability testing (adhesion, abrasion, humidity, temperature, salt fog) in accordance with ISO and military standards

Prepare documentation for external testing and review

Process & Quality Control

Read and interpret technical drawings, process sheets, interferometer scans, and coating data

Identify and report non-conforming materials and communicate findings with Engineering

Recommend process improvements and documentation updates where needed

Support cross-functional training to reduce inspection bottlenecks and build team capabilities

Qualifications:

High School Diploma required; Associate degree preferred

1–2 years of experience in a QA or quality inspection role within a manufacturing environment

Familiarity with optical component inspection and metrology strongly preferred

Basic to moderate math skills and understanding of optical standards

Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and quality specifications

Proactive, team-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
