QC Technician II

Second Shift: Monday - Friday 230pm - 11pm (position will need flexibility to train mostly on 1st shift)

Location/Division Specific Information:

The Thermo Fisher Scientific Grand Island, NY BioProduction division supports developers and manufacturers of biological-based therapeutics and vaccines with a portfolio of premium cell culture media and buffers as well as on site custom services dedicated to upstream cell culture, downstream purification, analytics for detection and quantitation of process/product impurities, and a catalog of single-use solutions spanning the biologics workflow.

How Will You Make an Impact:

Incoming Quality Control Technician II performs wet chemical analyses and inspections on production commodities and raw materials (i.e. salts, sugars, amino acids, vitamins, etc) following established methods and SOPs in accordance to cGMPs.

We need a motivated individual with excellent communication and laboratory skills to coordinate and complete planned and detailed activities within a quality system to ensure product, process, system, or equipment quality requirements are met.

A Day in the Life:

Perform wet chemical analyses based on both internal and Compendia (USP, EP, ACS, etc) based methodologies.

Physical inspection and documentation review of incoming manufacturing components.

Work with instruments such as FTIR, UV vis spectrophotometer, Polarimeter, pH meter, Auto titrator.

Assess and prioritize workload daily.

Demonstrate judgment, tact and diplomacy; in taking care of internal and external customers.

Work with various computer based software such as Sample Manager (LIMS system), SmartSheet, Microsoft Office (Outlook/Excel/Word).

Other laboratory functions as assigned.

Education:Required: High School Diploma requiredPreferred: AAS degree in Chemistry, Biology, or other Sciences

Band 2 minimum qualifications (Quality Assurance and Quality Control):

Required: Minimum of 1 year of work experience in QA or QC or related fieldRequired: Proficient oral and written communication skills are required to be effective in this role.Preferred: Experience in a cGMP environmentPreferred Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (nice to have):Bachelors’ degree in Science related studies1-2 years of Chemistry lab experience (wet Chemistry lab work and safety protocols).Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.Ability to work in a high paced team environment, prioritize work accordingly.General digital literacy, specifically in Microsoft office programs.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in New York is $16.95–$28.25.
