Smith Building City Albany State NY Zip Code 12210 Duties Description The Public Safety Program Specialist 1 (Missing Persons) will act as an Investigative Specialist in the Missing Persons Clearinghouse (MPC) in the Office of Public Safety. Services provided by the MPC include investigative support to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies; coordination of efforts with parents, left-behind family members, attorneys, courts, and private agencies in the search for and recovery of missing and unidentified persons. Specific duties for this position include but are not limited to:• Gather and evaluate information regarding missing persons; determine the urgency of each case and take appropriate action.• Publicize cases of missing children, college students, and vulnerable adults via the DCJS public website, National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) website, NY Alert, and other poster services.• Assist the supervisors and program manager of the unit with the coordination of the Missing Child, Missing College Student, and Vulnerable Adult Alert Programs.• Conduct database, internet, and social media searches on cases of missing person cases, analyze results and take appropriate action. • Intake, analyze, and properly disseminate lead information on missing persons.• Assist federal, state, and local agencies in the investigation of cases involving missing and exploited children, missing college students, and missing vulnerable adults. Minimum Qualifications Non-Competitive: Associate degree or 60 semester credits and four (4) years of qualifying experience in an investigative support position supporting missing persons investigations, OR a bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of qualifying experience in an investigative support position supporting missing persons investigations, OR six (6) years of qualifying experience in an investigative support position supporting missing persons investigations. Qualifying experience includes taking written statements from law enforcement and left-behind family members; collecting and archiving physical and documentary evidence; and preparing detailed written reports of investigative findings. Investigative support of missing person investigations experience can include any level of experience or number of instances of involvement with a missing person report or investigation. Preferred Qualifications: Prior law enforcement experience. Strong verbal communication skills. Additional Comments This position will be assigned to the evening shift of 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM. The position requires the investigative specialist to be in on-call status on a rotating basis with other investigative specialists for the operation of a 24/7 hotline.
