**Position Description**
The Hospital for Sick Children serves a diverse population of patients and families by offering holistic, comprehensive services across a wide range of clinical specialties. Empowering children and families' lives through excellence, innovation, understanding, and hope, the SickKids Department of Psychology is a respected leader in Precision Child Health. Integrating clinical care, research and education, through an equity-focused and inclusive lens, SickKids Psychology supports the generation of new knowledge and evidence, educates the next generation of specialized Psychologists, and effectively helps address the complex developmental, medical, and psychosocial needs of children and youth being treated for primary medical and psychiatric conditions at SickKids.
SickKids Psychology is currently recruiting for a Psychometrist who, under the direction and supervision of a registered Psychologist (specialized in neuropsychology), will carry out the administration, scoring, and data management of neuropsychological assessment measures for children and adolescents (ages 3-18). Specifically, the Psychometrist should have specialized knowledge of neuropsychological test administration and familiarity with patients with complex medical conditions. The Psychometrist will primarily work with school-age children and adolescents presenting with complex seizure disorders who are followed through the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program. The Comprehensive Epilepsy Program is an interdisciplinary team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, neurophysiologists, neuropsychologists, nurses, dieticians, social workers, and neuroradiologists with the single-minded goal to offer each child the best care possible. This team provides precision care for complex, drug-resistant epilepsy, including medical, surgical, and dietary therapies to children from across Ontario and around the world. Clinical research is a critical part of this program, with clinical trials and observational studies integrated into the care provided. The Psychometrist may also become involved with on-going research projects, including managing the clinical database, and other duties as required.
**Here's What You'll Get to Do**
+ Work within a fast-paced environment; efficiently manage, triage, and assess a varied caseload under specific required timelines within a child and family centred approach to care.
+ Manage clinical services by maintaining accurate wait lists, contacting families to make clinical appointments, gathering initial referral data and history.
+ Under the direction of the neuropsychologist, carry out comprehensive neuropsychological assessments to understand a child's cognitive, behavioural, and social-emotional functioning while considering his/her/their neurodevelopmental and medical/neurological histories.
+ Administer and score developmental, cognitive, and neuropsychological assessment measures.
+ Observe and report on relevant patient behaviour during test sessions and adapting interactions as necessary to work successfully with patient.
+ Assist in the education/training of clinical trainees with neuropsychological testing and scoring.
+ Keep up to date with new tests or versions of tests as they become available.
+ Manage psychological and clinical databases and ensuring complete and accurate records are kept for future reference, program evaluation, and quality assurance.
+ Support departmental education and contributing to departmental function by serving on committees, mentoring new employees, attending departmental meetings.
+ Participate in ongoing and emerging clinical projects as required.
+ Ensure that hospital administrative policy and privacy requirements are adhered to.
**Here's What You'll Need**
+ Master's degree in psychology with evidence of coursework and practicum experience in standardized cognitive assessment (bachelor's degree in psychology with extensive and relevant clinical experience _may_ be considered).
+ Previous neuropsychological testing and assessment experience with children/adolescents with wide ranging presentations. The candidate should feel confident working with neurodivergent children and families managing complex medical conditions and experiences.
+ Superior critical thinking, organizational and time management skills, and highly attentive to detail.
+ Ability to use observational skills to identify issues beyond test scores.
+ Solid experience with database (e.g., Excel, REDCap) and proficiency in the use of electronic platforms such as Microsoft Office, hospital documentation systems, and other relevant technology is a strong asset.
+ Demonstrated competency in written and verbal communications.
+ Sound judgement, diplomacy, and tact, in interacting with a diverse population.
+ Knowledge and experience with crisis prevention and intervention models.
+ Demonstrated ability to problem solve, work independently and collaboratively with members of a large interdisciplinary healthcare team.
+ Demonstrated experience and knowledge in culturally competent practice, and extensive understanding of the importance of health equity, diversity, and inclusion in the delivery of healthcare services.
+ Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives.
+ Excellent interpersonal and decision-making skills.
+ Social sensitivity, diplomacy, and relationship-building / management.
+ Knowledge of child and adolescent psychosocial development and psychopathology; ability to manage challenging behaviour and motivate children and adolescents.
+ Ability to multi-task, be flexible and adaptable to changing program demands.
+ Proficiency in French and experience administering French neuropsychological assessment measures is an asset.
