Student laboratory assistants will primarily work in teaching laboratories and associated spaces without continual, direct supervision. Adherence to laboratory safety and health policies is required, including the use of all necessary personal protective equipment and other safety devices. This position requires balancing, carrying, climbing, hearing with acuity, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching (both high and low), repetitious finger and wrist movement, seeing near and far with depth perception and color vision, sitting, speaking clearly, standing, and walking.
a. Care
for living specimens and handle preserved specimens.
b. Move/distribute
equipment, models, and supplies.
c. Set
up, maintain, and troubleshoot instruments and other electronic devices.
d. Install
software, configure, backup, and troubleshoot computer systems.
e. Clean
laboratory surfaces, equipment, and supplies as needed.
f. Communicate with
faculty and staff to ensure that laboratory activities are set up, restocked,
and cleaned up in a timely manner.
g. Collect,
segregate, and/or dispose of laboratory wastes properly.
h. Complete work
assignments safely using necessary personal protective equipment and other
safety devices.
i. Assist with
inventory control, safety data sheet collection, and data entry operations.
j. Perform
other general laboratory and office support tasks as assigned.
k. Copy,
scan, index, and file documents
l. Assist
with mailings, including sorting and distributing mail
m. Data
entry, document creation and other computer work with Micro Office Suite
n. Maintenance
of office, classroom, and lab inventories
o. Campus
errands
