Central Louisiana State Hospital located inPineville, Louisianais seeking applicants for a vacant position in ourNURSING DEPARTMENTas aPSYCHIATRIC AIDE 3who performs responsible non-professional nursing support work involving direct patient care and the implementation of a variety of planned therapeutic techniques.
PSYCHIATRIC AIDE 3 plays a vital role for the Louisiana Department of Health in the Behavioral Health community by utilizing CLSH’s values and mission to deliver quality and effective care to our patients. The hospital is highly committed to cooperative work with other state agencies and with the state and regional mental health program to insure the integration and coordination of hospital-community services into a comprehensive system of mental health care.
Minimum Qualifications
Eighteen months of experience in providing behavioral health or developmentally disabled services, or psychiatric patient care; OR
Nine semester hours of college coursework in a social sciences field, education, social work, child guidance, or nursing; OR
One year of experience in providing behavioral health or developmentally disabled services or psychiatric patient care plus a Behavioral Health Aide Diploma from a vocational technical college with an approved curriculum from the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
+ This position serves as a lead worker\trainer to Psychiatric Aides who work on patient care units, providing psychiatric care for intermediate to long-term psychiatric patients, under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse Manager and functional supervision of Registered Nurse staff on the units.
+ The incumbent will perform delegated nursing duties on patient-care units, serving the patient population a specific psychiatric diagnosis that may be accompanied by medical diagnoses, special needs, or developmental disability. Will meet competency standards according to age/population-specific needs of patients.
+ Identifies staff development needs for frontline direct care staff and works closely with the RN Manager and Education's Registered Nurse Program Coordinator to ensure appropriate training is obtained for carrying out active treatment plans of individuals with mental health disorders.
+ Orients and trains new Psychiatric Aide staff. Mentors and counsels lower-level direct care personnel with a focus on understanding or changing behavior through therapeutic techniques and specialized patient care activities to meet the goal of the individualized patient treatment plan.
+ Assists with the assessment of lower-level direct care personnel in their competency and performance of duties. Performs other duties as delegated by RN Manager to facilitate smooth operation of the service. Participates in shift change report as necessary.
+ Interacts with patients as a therapeutic function. Observes and reports condition of patients to professional staff. Conducts and facilitates groups in therapeutic activities such as unit meetings and work or activity therapies. Performs routine nursing duties according to level of competency and within licensure guidelines and documents findings or patient's responses accurately and timely manner. Participates in restrictive management events and demonstrates ability to utilize CPI techniques.
+ Provides level of care and observation according to policy and procedure. Assists with admission, transfer, discharge, elopement, and pass procedures and initiates or responds to codes according to level of competency, type code procedure.
+ Attends report and accepts patient care assignment for assigned shift. Ensures patient safety and demonstrates ability to identify potential or real safety hazards, corresponding tothe individual patient stage of growth and development. Escorts patients to campus activities, off-grounds appointments and provides level of observation assigned to patient during escorts and maintains accountability of patients and awareness of patients ' whereabouts at all times, reporting and documenting appropriately during the assigned shift. Assist in the management of aggressive behavior, utilizing therapeutic intervention techniques.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type:Promotional or Demotion- Must be a current, Permanent Full-Time employee at Central Louisiana State Hospital.
Compensation: This position has a Special Interest Rate (SER) of $1112.80 bi-weekly. Position is eligible for premium pay of $1.50 per hour and Longevity pay starting at $1.00 per hour.
