Job SummaryWe are seeking a part-time Psychiatric Care Worker (PCW) to join our Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and Ketamine Clinics. Under the supervision of the Medical Director, ECT/Ketamine Nursing Director or Supervisor, and Clinical Nurses, the PCW provides essential support to both patients and clinical staff.
Responsibilities*Provide direct care to patients receiving ECT or Ketamine treatments.Manage stretchers and wheelchairs, including ensuring availability and performing cleaning/disinfection as required.Prepare patients for treatment by setting up IV bags/tubing, taking vital signs, conducting pregnancy tests, placing and removing monitoring leads, and related tasks as appropriate.Safely transport patients to and from treatment areas or inpatient floors; assist with ambulation and patient transfers.Organize and file paperwork, including patient records and consent forms.Maintain the nourishment area with necessary supplies.Prepare and manage patient identification bands, labels, assessment paperwork, and schedules.Clean equipment as needed, discard used linens and restock ECT carts as necessary.Complete requisitions for equipment sterilization and managing delivery and retrieval as needed.Perform other duties as assigned by clinical staff.Required Qualifications*Minimum of two years of college education.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated responsible work patterns, including an excellent attendance record.Ability to transport and assist patients, including using stretchers and wheelchairs.Previous experience working in an ECT unit within a Level One Trauma Center.Experience within the last six months working with psychiatric patients.Desired Qualifications*Ability to receive and process direction from multiple team membersBachelor's degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related field.Certification as a Medical Assistant, Nurse Assistant, or completion of Paramedic TrainingWork ScheduleThis is a part-time, Monday - Friday (day shift) position, scheduled for 32 hours per week (0.8 FTE), typically spread over 4four 8-hour shifts. Department operating hours are 6 am-4 pm.Start times may vary between 6 am and 8 am depending on daily treatment schedules.The schedule will include every Monday and Friday to meet departmental needs.Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
