Role Summary:
The Meat Buyer will be responsible for overseeing the sourcing, negotiation, and management of fresh & frozen protein products. Works closely with the VP of Purchasing to achieve the goals of the company. Provides supply chain/inventory management for promotionally active categories and corresponding financial accountabilities. Procures products in accordance with all policies and procedures established by the company.

Develop and implement a business plan for the categoryPurchasing and receiving products from vendors. Consult with vendors regarding current orders and new protein products. Initiate orders, schedule deliveries, and process related paperwork and documentation. Provide product and pricing information to sales staff.Identify and develop purchasing opportunities. Order products to meet forecasted demand.Interface with various departments to accomplish job functions. Develop and maintain good working relationships with vendors, store operations, distribution center, and division office personnel.Review acquisition costs to ensure items purchased are at the lowest cost consistent with considerations of quality, reliability of source, and urgency of need.Assess current inventory, availability, and promotional impact to forecast order quantities.Manage and track protein inventory levels, developing and maintaining an understanding of market conditions impacting the Protein industry and ensuring the supply of materials and contingency plans to meet business needs by identifying potential areas of riskReview and resolve inventory issues at the store level as a result of allocations or order issues. Review and analyze daily and weekly reports to monitor costs, quality, service level, inventory turns, and adjust as needed. Effectively manage the disposition of obsolete protein inventoryConduct frequent marketplace analysis in order to effectively gauge the success of the category and adjust execution as needed. Manage reporting on key performance indicators and leverage available data and reports to understand performanceMust have great insights into the commodity categoriesEducation, Experience & Travel Required:
5+ years of progressive experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain managementUnderstanding of procurement, logistics, and inventory managementStrong understanding of protein sourcing, market trends, and supply chain dynamics.Excellent organizational, problem-solving abilities, and analytical skills; ability to take initiative and make fact-based decisions and strategic recommendationsAbility to plan and organize effectivelyAccuracy and attention to detail Written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective business relationships both internally and externally.Excellent negotiation, contract management, and supplier relationship management skills.Effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.Ability to accommodate flexible schedules to meet the needs of the customer as requiredTravel up to 20%Computer Skills

Physical Demands
