The Opportunity

Due to continued growth within our Power Projects Team, we are seeking a skilled HV Protection & Control Technician to join our delivery group. This role plays a pivotal part in the testing and commissioning of high-voltage (HV) substations across NSW, including regional areas, Metro Sydney, and surrounding regions.

You’ll work collaboratively with internal teams and external clients to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant testing on both Greenfield and Brownfield infrastructure projects.

 

Key Responsibilities

Plan, coordinate, and execute HV testing and commissioning activitiesEstimate safe and efficient commissioning approaches aligned with project scopesPerform secondary systems commissioning on Greenfield and Brownfield sitesSupport the preparation of documentation for bids and tendersTest and commission secondary systems, SCADA, RTU, and associated equipmentConduct fault finding and implement system upgradesPerform primary testing on CTs, VTs, circuit breakers, and other HV equipmentExecute differential balancing and injection testing on transformers, busbars, and feedersConduct secondary injection testing across a wide range of protection schemes, including Transformer, cable, overcurrent, earth fault, differential, and distance protection systems.

 

About You

Hold a current A Grade Electrical Licence (desirable but not essential)2 to 5 years of relevant experience in HV protection and control testingProven experience working in high-voltage switchyards and substationsHold an Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering and or related electrical qualificationStrong fault-finding skills and deep knowledge of secondary systemsSound knowledge of SCADA, RTUs, and related control systemsFamiliarity with Australian electrical standards (e.g. AS/NZS 3000, AS 2067)Demonstrated experience with commissioning processes on HV infrastructurePractical experience using test equipment such as: OMICRON (e.g., CMC356, CMC256, Test Universe) Doble, Megger, or equivalent platformsAbility to read and interpret schematic and wiring diagramsStrong computer literacy and technical documentation skillsExcellent communication, self-management, and customer liaison abilitiesProven ability to work autonomously and as part of a site-based teamDemonstrated leadership potential and capability to mentor othersWillingness to travel.
