A commercial real estate investment and development company in Chattanooga is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Property Accountant to join the team. This role will play a key part in ensuring our financial processes run smoothly and efficiently.
About the Role:
As a Property Accountant, you will take ownership of accounting operations for multiple real estate assets and development projects. You’ll perform key functions such as managing monthly closings, preparing financial reports, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and accounting standards. You’ll also support fund accounting and investor reporting processes, making this a well-rounded and impactful position with opportunities for growth.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Property and General Accounting
+ Handle all accounting functions for a portfolio of operating residential and commercial properties.
+ Oversee job costing and loan draws for active development projects.
+ Record journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts, and maintain complete supporting documentation.
+ Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements including variance analysis.
+ Process accounts payable and receivable transactions with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
+ Manage lease data in Yardi to ensure it remains current and correct.
+ Collaborate with property managers to review budgets, rent rolls, and expense reports.
+ Assist during annual audits, providing requested reports and documentation.
Fund Accounting
+ Support the creation of financial statements for investment entities and holding companies.
+ Record capital contributions, distributions, and intercompany transactions.
+ Maintain thorough fund accounting schedules as per GAAP and partnership agreements.
+ Assist with tracking investor allocations, preferred returns, and capital calls.
Investor Reporting
+ Help prepare quarterly and annual investor reporting packages, including fund summaries and capital account statements.
+ Work alongside asset management and investor relations to reconcile reporting data.
+ Ensure the timely delivery of investor communications and financial updates.

Requirements
Qualifications You’ll Need:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
+ 3+years of prior property accounting experience.
+ Proficiency in Yardi Voyager software is strongly preferred.
+ Strong understanding of GAAP and commercial real estate accounting principles.
+ Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (knowledge of pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and formulas).
+ Top-notch attention to detail, organizational skills, and analytical thinking.
+ Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, growth-focused environment.
+ Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
