Project Officer-Agronomist
The Role:
The project Officer-Agronomist will Provide technical support and guidance to project teams and support partners during implementation, support capacity building of partner staff in commodities management and general programing and ensure that there is compliance to Donor and World Vision requirements /guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordination
Coordinate the establishment and operation of Farmer Field Schools (FFS), tree nurseries, and community seed banks.Facilitate and oversee the implementation of kitchen gardening, multi-storey gardens, fodder production, and seed bank initiatives in collaboration with local stakeholders.Collaborate and coordinate with state agriculture ministry in the implementation of field activitiesLiaise with local authorities, agricultural departments, NGOs, and community leaders to ensure alignment and community buy-in.Facilitate linkages between farmers and private sector actors such as agro-dealers and fodder traders.Organize and lead trade fairs, field days, and farmer-market networking events.Collaborate with other sectors (nutrition, livelihoods, DRR) to ensure integrated programming.Capacity building for community structures and Partner staff
Train men and women in home gardening, multi-storey farming, and vegetable production.Provide capacity-building sessions on sustainable agriculture practices such as climate-smart agriculture, integrated pest management (IPM), soil fertility management, and post-harvest handling.Train community members and staff on fodder production, processing, and storage practices.Conduct trainings for farmers on seed bank management, seed selection, storage techniques, and biodiversity conservation.Provide continuous technical support and mentoring to households on home garden management and food preparation.Conduct nutrition education through cooking demonstrations, targeting vulnerable households.Monitoring and reporting
Contribute to baseline and end line assessments, including yield measurements and farmer feedback.Monitor the progress of agricultural demonstration plots, tree nurseries, and home gardens.Track the performance of trained lead farmers and FFS graduates to assess skills transfer and adoption.Follow up on input distribution (seeds, tools, stoves) and ensure proper utilization.Conduct regular visits to households and farms to verify adoption of promoted techniques.Collect and analyze data on crop performance, household food security, and market engagement.Reporting
Prepare timely and accurate field activity reports for internal and donor use.Document lessons learned, case studies, and success stories to inform future programming.Report on distribution and utilization of seeds, tools, and other agricultural inputs.Maintain updated records of input distributions, training sessions, and beneficiaries reached.Contribute to periodic project reports and participate in review and planning meetings.Essential:
A minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Environment and Community development, Developmental studies, Economics or any other related field.Must demonstrate training in food security and livelihood or implemented such projects.Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar position.Working with partners and conducting capacity-building and trainingParticipated or work project on Anticipatory Action & Climate Resilience.Excellent communication skills.Must be good at using statistical data to generate reports.Computer literacy.Have good mathematical and analytical skills.Good community capacity building.Good understanding of sphere standards.Proven experience in implementing Anticipatory Action & Climate Resilience programsProven experience in implementing resilience project the Somalia context.Working Environment:
The position is field-based in Dollow, Jubaland State with frequent travel to field operation areas required.
