Project (Mechanical) Engineer - Senior

We are currently seeking a qualified Design Engineering associate to prepare complex, 3D/CAD design drawings & Bill of Material (BOM) for engineered compressor- and vacuum skidded packages for customers and manufacturing, in accordance with global engineering rulebooks, standards, regulations, directives and specifications. Typical system layouts consist of skid mounted liquid ring vacuum pumps/compressors, auxiliary mechanical seal support systems, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, valves, instrumentation and pressure piping as well as electrical equipment. The position requires an individual with strong mechanical aptitude and relentless attention to detail and quality output considering strict HSE/HFE requirements.

Responsibilities & Requirements:

•    Develop and prepare drawings, plans, P&ID’s, layouts and BOM from engineering specifications.
•    Review and interpret associated design specifications for each project.
•    Select materials and components based on project specifications and compatibility.
•    Creation of the manufacturing documents required for the customer order, including accessories: bills of materials, drawings, instructions, SAP master data, including export controls.
•    Confirm overall design for functional feasibility with Product Engineering and Project Management.
•    Application of design principles, such as functional and manufacturing-oriented design according to national and international standards and guidelines.
•    Initiation and support of customer-specific calculations in steel construction and piping planning in collaboration with internal or external engineering service providers.
•    Selection and specification of plant components (valves, instruments, pipes, etc.) for procurement.
•    Ensure conformity with national and international directives and standards, e.g., the Machinery Directive, Explosion Protection, the Pressure Equipment Directive, and/or equivalent requirements, such as customer specifications.
•    Provision of request for quotes for the supply chain and technical review of incoming supplier offers.
•    Design tanks and pressure vessels utilizing calculations to ensure conformance with engineering specifications and applicable codes.
•    Prepare design layouts of structural bases and steelwork in accordance with engineering specifications. 
•    Perform peer reviews of designs to ensure accuracy to specifications, standards and codes.
•    Use ERP system for BOM entry (SAP).
•    Provide assistance and training to junior CAD Designers and collaborate worldwide with internal/external engineering support.
•    Recommend design modifications to improve standard products and develop prototypes where applicable. 
•    Recommend design engineering procedure changes and improvements. 
•    Adhere to ISO quality procedures and processes for drawing management and control
•    Liaise with project administrators, system engineering, purchasing, vendor, shop and assembly staff as required.
•    Conducting risk assessments for the designed systems and preparing declarations of conformity.

Preferred Experience / Skills:

•    Completed university degree in mechanical engineering or comparable.
•    Ideally several years of experience in industrial pressure piping design using ASME B31.1 and B31.3 and EN13480 / AD2000 preferably chemical, oil & gas sectors. 
•    Expert knowledge of 3D modelling and 2D drafting software (SolidWorks or equivalent). 
•    Applied experience in 2D drafting standards and techniques including GD&T. 
•    Working knowledge of ERP and PLM (preferred SAP and Windchill).
•    Working knowledge of pressure piping routing, design and fabrication in accordance with ASME B31.1 and B31.3 & EN13480 piping codes. 
•    Knowledge of ASME Section VIII, Division 1 & EN13445 pressure vessel design and fabrication.
•    Knowledge of Machinery Directive.
•    Knowledge of Pressure Equipment Directive.
•    Experience with structural steel design and fabrication for supporting rotating equipment and piping systems. 
•    Experience integrating instrumentation into piping designs including control valves, flow meters and transmitters (pressure, temperature and level). 
•    Flexible concerning working hours & willing to travel for planned visits or to overcome unexpected issues (up to 15%) if any.
•    Ability to work with geographically dispersed teams with culturally diverse membership.
•    Ability to work without supervision and accomplish assignments of high quality and on time.
•    Strong oral and written English communication skills, German is a plus.
