Purpose of JobThe Project Engineer – Product Tankage is responsible for planning, executing, and monitoring all engineering activities related to statutory maintenance, inspections, and project execution of storage tanks and pressure vessels. The role ensures compliance with statutory regulations (OSH Act, PER, API 580, 650, 653), drives cost-efficient maintenance and inspection schedules, and supports long-term asset integrity strategies in line with Sasol’s T-18 front-end loading processes.
Key Accountabilities
1.Project Planning & Execution
• Ensure all front-end loading for equipment outages is completed in accordance with the Sasol T-18 process.
• Develop and maintain a 10-year rolling plan for storage tank outages aligned with production planning.
• Prepare and present monthly reports for the Governance Oversight (GO) team, highlighting statutory compliance, RBI status, and equipment integrity issues.
• Lead corrective action initiatives for technical or scope-related deviations during project execution.
2. Cost & Budget Management
• Develop capital cost estimates, including control base, contingency, and change/risk management frameworks.
• Perform ongoing cost control to meet annual and project-specific cash flow targets.
• Prepare statutory maintenance budgets for storage tanks and pressure vessels.
• Monitor and report on financial year expenditure against budget.
3. Statutory Compliance & Risk Management
• Oversee and ensure the completion of all statutory inspections; no overdue inspections permitted.
• Monitor RBI (Risk-Based Inspection) backlog, ensuring no items exceed 18 months.
• Participate in HAZOP studies and formal risk assessments.
• Maintain and update the RBI system in line with OSH Act PER 12 and API 580 standards.
• Review inspection findings to maximize inspection intervals and ensure safe equipment return to service.
4. Outage & Integrity Management
• Report weekly on the status of tank and pressure vessel outages (ESMOP/ESMOS) for alignment with the Sasol value chain and production requirements.
• Optimize inspection frequencies through regrading, balancing cost and statutory compliance.
5. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
• Effectively manage internal and external stakeholder relationships, including contractors and suppliers.
• Ensure alignment across disciplines (maintenance, operations, inspection, SHE) for successful project delivery.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to support continuous improvement in asset integrity practices.
Formal Education• BSc / B-Tech / BEng in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5–8 years of experience in engineering project execution, maintenance, and asset integrity—preferably within the petrochemical or heavy industry sectors.
• Experience with pressure equipment and tank maintenance strategies and statutory compliance.
