The Project Engineer is responsible for overseeing the successful execution of custom equipment projects from initial design and approval through installation and commissioning. This role involves defining scope, specification, and deliverables, maintaining schedules and budgets, and communicating effectively with internal customers and internal teams across Engineering, Operations, Environmental, Safety & Health, Maintenance, and Supply Chain Management. This role reports to the Engineering Manager
What You’ll Be DoingResponsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following.
• Develop clear project specifications and assemble RFQ packages
• Define and document project scope and requirements from quotes, proposals, purchase orders, and internal requirements.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for Engineering throughout the project.
• Coordinate and lead internal project kickoff meetings with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain Management, and Maintenance.
• Maintain and update the MHP Engineering, 6 Gate – Capital Project Gated Check sheet to reflect scope, milestone, or schedule changes.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables through all phases.
• Facilitate technical reviews with internal customers and communicate project status clearly and regularly.
• Monitor scope, schedule, and budget changes; generate project updates and meeting minutes.
• Track and review time charges and resolve discrepancies with supervisors.
• Identify project delays and escalate concerns to department heads when necessary.
• Recommend improvements to enhance product quality and internal processes.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of project management experience in a manufacturing or precision engineering environment, or 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience with a strong emphasis in implementing capital projects.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work across all organizational levels.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering documents, drawings, and specifications.
• Strong analytical and reasoning skills, including basic technical math (geometry, trigonometry, algebra).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and project scheduling tools.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
Preferred Qualifications
• Ability to write specifications for PLC and HMI applications; programming and interface experience a plus.
• Experience with 2-D and 3-D Design (AutoCAD, Solidworks, NX, ProE or others).
• Familiarity with ERP systems and manufacturing processes.
• PMP certification or formal project management training.
• Experience implementing Kanban, shop floor inventory management, and product flow projects.
