Project Engineer – Christchurch

Downer New Zealand is looking for a motivated Project Engineer to join our thriving Christchurch-based team, supporting the successful delivery of critical infrastructure works across the region. This full-time, on-site role reports to the Project Manager and plays a key part in ensuring major capital and minor renewal projects are executed to the highest safety, quality, and performance standards.

You’ll join a collaborative and technically strong group working across multi-disciplinary utilities projects. Your work will support communities and clients through the delivery of essential water and civil infrastructure services, contributing directly to the growth and resilience of Aotearoa’s networks.

What You’ll Do

Provide end-to-end engineering support including investigations, setting out, temporary works, and procurement Coordinate construction methodologies and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards Monitor and maintain construction programmes, identifying critical path activities Lead or support project documentation, ITPs, site diaries, and stakeholder communications Support junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement and delivery excellence

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a proactive engineer who enjoys variety, values quality outcomes, and thrives in a fast-paced site-based environment.

You’ll ideally bring:

A tertiary qualification in civil engineering or a related discipline At least 5 years' experience delivering capital works or infrastructure projects Experience in construction methodologies, pipelaying, QA, commissioning, and temporary works Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond to technical challenges on site Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
