Project Engineer

As a Project Engineer you support production and supply chain through close collaboration with external molding contractors to plan, design, coordinate, validate, and implement high technology molding equipment and/or processes for the production and inspection of components for IOL and delivery system products. Provide engineering support to internal manufacturing process to maintain high yields and minimize downtime of process equipment. Typical responsibilities in this role will include;  

 

Responsibility for project management & planning, and for liaising with other departments/vendors affected by these projects. Work closely with external contract molding vendors and equipment manufacturers to specify, design and validate mold tools and processes at external molding vendor sites, for supply of intricate molded components to Alcon. 

Responsible for reporting project status to management and highlighting areas of concern early. 

Defines and monitors project scope, timing and progress and ensuring project is completed within budget. 

Responsible for planning and managing projects to ensure effective utilization of resources, and for liaising with R&D and other Alcon facilities to ensure all required product testing is carried out to meet Design and Regulatory requirements. 

Responsible for supporting and improving internal processes through process analysis and the application of engineering principles. 

Work with Quality department to investigate issues related to component defects and Expethe implementation of solutions and corrective actions.  

Comply with Alcon Safety and Environmental Procedures. 

Ensure continual Quality System compliance by adherence to established and evolving Alcon requirements. 

What you’ll bring to Alcon: 

Interest in working in a high volume manufacturing environment gaining experience in process engineering, equipment validation and project management. Previous experience in a similar role an advantage but not essential.   

Interest in Medical Device industry, Optical systems, Molding Technology.  

Minimum: Bachelor degree in Engineering/ Physics or related discipline  

Preferred: Master’s degree in Engineering/ Physics or related discipline  

High degree of independent judgement and the ability to develop creative solutions is required. 

Knowledge of injection molding fundamentals, process engineering and equipment and GMP validation requirements. 

Knowledge of statistical process control and data analysis by statistical methods. 

Report writing expertise and highly developed people skills. 

Knowledge of requirements of machinery directive – i.e. CE marking 

Knowledge of process analysis and optimization, and basic industrial engineering. 

Attention to detail. 

Excellent organization skills. 

Understands the principles and practice of high tolerance machining and metrology. 

Ability to carry out basic functions in CAD packages. 

Must be able to work safely, as part of a team and adhere to quality system requirements. 

Ability to interact with internal customers as well as external suppliers.
