Project Controls Specialist (Turnaround)
Job Summary
The Marathon Petroleum Company (MPC) Los Angeles Refining (LAR) located in Carson, CA is seeking a Project Controls Specialist. This individual will provide project controls and administrative support for the Turnaround group. Duties include performing cost control and estimating functions relating to Turnarounds. The Project Controls Specialist will work with Project Control group to maintain consistent cost reporting and adhering to MPC Standards. A successful candidate will have strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work in a team environment. The hours of the position are Monday – Thursday 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM and support of TAR on average once a year.
Key Responsibilities
+ Perform as the project controls/ cost control representative for the Turnaround Team
+ Support in estimating and cost reporting in adherence to standards
+ Develop Hiring Plans and Equipment Plans
+ Maintain manpower and equipment plans and report against the plans daily for all assigned projects
+ Assist in budgeting and estimating for future Turnaround events
+ Coordinate and review check and control estimates for Turnarounds
+ Develop and monitor, with the project team, project execution strategy and tactical plans to achieve maximum efficiency and effectiveness for individual projects
+ Review TRACK time and SAP for invoice compliance for Turnaround group purchase orders
+ Monitor actual earned value, productivity, direct/indirect ratios, etc.
+ Monitor and prepare cost reports Turnarounds. Prepare Turnaround forecasts
+ Create and maintain charge matrix for the team
+ Monitor actual earned value, productivity and direct/ indirect ratios
+ Communicate with Accounting to close out month
Education, Experience and Skills
Minimum Qualifications
+ Must have a High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of project controls, planning or scheduling experience in a Refinery, Petro Chemical or other related heavy industry OR Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Business, Accounting, Finance or Engineering. (Education must be achieved by start date.)
+ Must be proficient with: Word, Excel and Outlook.
+ Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery, be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.
+ Must have a valid driver’s license. (MPC determines valid status.)
+ Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.
+ Travel Requirement is 5% or less.
+ The hours of the position are Monday – Thursday 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM and support of TAR on average once a year.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Previous experience in projects or construction planning, scheduling, or cost controls in refining or petrochemical industry.
+ Field experience and a successful history of collaborating with field execution leads is preferred.
+ Experience with Enterprise Project Controls systems such as SAP or Primavera P6 is preferred.
+ Experience developing reports with data analytics tools such as Access and Power BI is preferred.
+ Highly proficient in Excel is preferred.
