Description We are looking for a skilled Project Accountant to join our team in Chicago, Illinois. This Contract-to-permanent position offers an exciting opportunity to manage financial aspects of various projects while collaborating with internal stakeholders and clients. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in project accounting and a proactive approach to problem-solving in a dynamic work environment.
Responsibilities:
• Enter and manage project budgets in Sage accounting software, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Process and code job-specific invoices after approval from directors or project managers.
• Maintain comprehensive records related to projects, including contracts and change orders.
• Monitor project expenses and charges, identifying any discrepancies and ensuring proper allocation.
• Investigate variances in project costs and prepare detailed variance reports for management.
• Prepare and issue all project-related billings to clients, while addressing any billing discrepancies.
• Respond to client and management inquiries, providing detailed financial information as needed.
• Collect and review subcontractor waivers and supporting documentation to ensure compliance.
• Compile necessary documentation for audits, both internal and external, as requested.
• Collaborate with internal team members and provide financial reports or support for special projects as required. Requirements • Associate’s degree in Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Proven attention to detail and flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and familiarity with Sage/Timberline preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to anticipate and resolve issues proactively.
• Prior experience in a privately-held company is advantageous but not required.
• Solid mathematical and analytical skills to manage complex financial data.
• Commitment to high ethical standards and integrity in all financial activities.
