M Housing serves approximately 11,500 students; 9,100 undergraduate and 2,400 graduate and professional students and their families. Although first-year students are not required to live on campus; historically 96-98% of all new first-year students choose to live on. Currently, the M Housing portfolio consists of 19 residential facilities that include traditional residence halls, apartments, and other living options located in communities on north and central campuses in Ann Arbor. In partnership with Michigan Dining, there are 9 dining halls and 9 retail operations embedded within the residence halls that serve approximately 4 million meals per year. Beginning Fall 2024, M Housing partnered with other units and departments within Student Life to support the residential experience for approximately 25 U-M students on the Marygrove campus, located in Detroit. In Fall 2026, five new residence halls housing 2,300 undergraduate students and a new 822-seat dining facility will open to continue M Housing's strong tradition of providing affordable housing options and services for U-M students. In addition to supporting the academic mission of the University, M Housing creates and sustains diverse learning-centered residential communities that ultimately enhance the residential experience and serve as a guide for their work in support of M Housing values. Position Summary: The Michigan Housing Community Connections and Engagement Department is vital in fostering vibrant and inclusive residential communities where students feel a strong sense of belonging. It achieves this through dynamic engagement and programming in residence halls, addressing residents' accommodation needs, facilitating connections to campus resources, and supporting students in navigating campus climate concerns. By offering events, educational workshops, staff training sessions, and the You Belong Here campaign, the department strives to create a welcoming community where everyone can thrive. The Program Manager enhances the residential experience by partnering on the M Housing accommodations process. They are responsible for keeping accommodation records current and managing them across multiple databases. This role also involves supporting the Emotional Support Animal (ESA) process, which includes administrative tasks and meetings with residents. They conduct daily audits of Advocate Cases assigned to the office to ensure accurate records and necessary follow-ups. Additionally, this Program Manager position handles administrative duties, such as ordering supplies and managing budget support for student staff. **Responsibilities*** **Management of Residential Experience (40%)** Collaborate with the M Housing Accommodations Coordinator and Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD), within the Student Accessibility and Accommodations Services (SAAS), to process and address student housing accommodation requests for disabilities and medical/chronic health conditions. Core responsibilities include: + Triage and track accommodation requests daily via email and voicemail. + Guide students, families, and support networks through housing accommodations processes, including room modifications, assistive devices, and emotional support animals (ESAs). + Coordinate with campus partners (e.g., University Health & Counseling, SSD, University ADA Coordinator) to address student health and disability needs. + Utilize StarRez and internal systems for note management, tracking ESA/service animal information, and updating student profiles. + Support strategic partnerships to enhance holistic student services in M Housing. + Assist with urgent accommodation needs and connect students to campus resources and referrals. + Lead the service animal and ESA accommodation process, coordinating with SSD, holding student meetings, updating spreadsheets, and maintaining StarRez records. + Manage the M Housing Accommodations email inbox, responding to inquiries and supporting resident needs. + Identify trends and emerging needs, develop and improve accommodation processes/protocols, and streamline student access to housing accommodations. + Prepare an annual compliance report in accordance with federal and state laws. + Maintain inventory records of on-campus housing available for accommodations. + Develop and refine student-centered application and assignment processes in collaboration with M Housing colleagues. **Residential Climate Support and Education (40%)** + Assist the team in daily triaging and tracking of residential climate concerns reports in residential communities. + Support the conflict management process and responses to identity and climate concerns reported by ResStaff and M Housing permanent staff in the residential communities utilizing multi-disciplinary and restorative practices expertise. + Provide support to students, ResStaff, and Residential permanent staff in navigating residential climate concerns. + Provide educational outreach and support by creating training programs that equip M Housing staff with best practices for serving students with accommodation needs. + Implement initiatives related to the M Housing You Belong Here campaign. + Serve as the primary administrative liaison to Multicultural Councils, ensuring their effective operation and long-term success through proactive support and collaboration. + Maintain accurate and up-to-date council constitutions, bylaws, and other essential documents. + Provide ongoing budget tracking and financial guidance, including supporting supply ordering and program funding in partnership with the Student Organization Resource Center (SORC). + Facilitate council program planning and execution, ensuring logistical needs and University policies are met. + Attend council meetings regularly and offer direct support to council leadership in achieving their goals and fostering strong, inclusive communities. **Community Connections Departmental Administration (20%)** + Participate in the on-call rotation to provide remote support for campus climate incidents within the residence halls (via phone and email). + Support Community Connections and Engagement staff in assessing the effectiveness of departmental programs and interventions in fostering inclusive residential communities and advancing campus-wide belonging initiatives. + Assist with departmental communications, including the development and distribution of resident- and department-facing newsletters in collaboration with other Program Managers. + Provide administrative and logistical support for department-sponsored programs and events, including supply orders and promotional materials. Other Duties as Assigned by Michigan Housing **Required Qualifications*** + Bachelor's degree in related field. + Experience in student affairs and/or related educational services work. + Experience building inclusive and multicultural communities. + Experience in mediation, conflict management, or restorative practices in resolving conflict. **Modes of Work** Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Position is an onsite position and shares office coverage responsibilities. + Possibility for one (1) day remote work a week when working full-time. **Physical Requirements:** + Be able to move and transport packages and boxes up to 25 lbs **Direct Reports:** + Provides functional supervision of all Community Connections and Engagement student staff as it relates to supporting residents. Direct supervision over Community Connections and Engagement hourly student staff when needed. Selected candidates whose start date is 4/1/2024 or before 8/31/2024, will not be eligible for the university FY24-25 salary/merit plan unless otherwise notified.
