Professional Transmission Line Engineer (PE)

The position falls within the transmission department of the organization. The engineer will working to complete projects that support our utility customer with minimum direction. They will work with in-house and client engineers and designers. They will provide, coordinate, and conduct training to lower level engineers.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for the engineering and design activities related to transmission line design such as engineering analysis and design, route selection, material acquisition, structural and foundation design, and project and construction managementPrepare project construction documents such as: plan and profile drawings; design drawings; engineering, material, and construction specifications; project schedules and bills of materialDevelop project design alternatives and corresponding cost estimatesDesign new transmission facilities with voltages ranging from 12 kV and 765 kVUtilize PLS-CADD to model transmission line design project.Conduct contractor bid and construction meetings and assist in ensuring that work activities are performed safely and in accordance with plans and established schedules, and in accordance with AEP policies, rules and standards, and in compliance with external regulationsCoordinate effectively with governmental and regulatory agencies and contractors to secure project permitProvide leadership to facilitate project completion, to train and mentor other engineers, and to develop measurable work area goals and objectivesFunction as a project lead for transmission projectsPerform all engineering and design activities with minimum directionLead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities of others within the work group, team, department, or those external to complete transmission projectsProvide training and guidance to lower level employeesIdentify and initiate corrective action when substation project objectives are not being metInterpret codes and regulations and develop standards for construction projectsPromote engineering professionalism and standardsParticipate in development of plans by establishing goals, objectives, and requirementsWork under supervision of higher level engineersPosition will require occasional site visits

Education and Experience Requirements

Minimum three years of experience of transmission line engineeringBachelor’s Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering (ABET)Master’s Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering (ABET) will count toward years of experienceA PE License is required

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00/hr.
